Moonlit Forever

Daniel POV

Sleeping next to Rachel I woke with a start. My head was pounding and I had a sharp pain in my wrists and leg. Getting up I winced and fell down. Getting up I managed to walk to the medicine cabinet and pull out some pain meds. Taking them I went back to bed and laid there for a few hours before I felt several lancing pains in my abdomen. My cries woke Rachel who immediately started worrying over me. Breathing heavily I felt another pain to the stomach that made me almost throw up. Running out I heard Rachel calling for the doctor. Sitting up against the head board I waited until the doctor came rushing in. Coming immediately to my side, he started to examine me. Asking when the pains started and various questions. Feeling a severe pain in my leg I cried out. The doctor got a serious look on his face. Ordering Rachel out he turned to me.

"Alpha! You haven't gotten your marks with Rachel to take yet have you?"

"Why is this important?" I growled out at him rubbing at my leg. My packs blatant acceptance of Maddie and their refusal to acknowledge Rachel had been a slap in the face but they also made me realize I needed Maddie in my life. Rachel's attitude just pissed me off.

"I promise Alpha, it's important."

"No it hasn't. We haven't tried again since before Maddie left though. I don't want to try again." I confided in the doctor.

"Alpha, the pain you're felling isn't your pain. I think it could be Maddie's." The doctor looked down when he said the last part.

"How is that possible? We aren't mated?" I growled out.

"No but you are marked. At least she is. In cases of extreme duress or physical stress, it has been known that mates will project onto one another so long as one mate is marked." Staring at the doctor like he had just grown another head I processed the information.

"What do my pains mean for her then? Are these projected pains of equal scale or will mine be worse?"

"I'm not certain what she is going through but previous encounters all mention them being less than or equal to the pain the mate in trouble is going through."

"Is she in trouble?"

"Alpha, usually physical duress is a sign of trouble." The doctor told me gently. Swearing I grabbed my phone and dialed Hank.

"Come on pick up Hank." I muttered as the phone rang a few times.

"Do you have any idea what time it is?" Hank's sleepy voice can be heard over the phone.

"Where is Maddie?"

"In bed like normal people." Relaxing slightly, I nodded slightly.

"You're sure about that?"

"Yeah she went to bed around 3. Got some bad news from the doctor." Hank sounded exasperated with me. Bad news from the doctor?

"Have you seen her since then?"

"What? No! She went to bed." Growling slightly I could feel myself tensing back up.

"Go check on her. Now!" I barked into the phone. Hearing him mutter, I heard a door open followed by a second door. Hearing a few swear words he was back on the phone before long.

"She's not here. She must have snuck out the window while no one was looking."

"Fuck! I'll be there in 4 hours." I said looking at the clock and my closet.

"Why? She just went on a run." Hank practically spat into the phone.

"That might be how it started out dipshit but now she's in trouble. I'm getting her projected pains or something like that. 4 hours. Wake her parents up and let them know I'm on the way."

"They aren't going to like you being here."

"I don't give a flying fuck." I yelled into the phone.

"Didn't think so, but wanted to warn you." Hank said reasonably. "You should know since you're coming that her wolf is dormant." Hearing that I could feel my blood run cold and I stopped breathing.

"What do you mean it's dormant?"

"Doctor here came to examine her, human and wolf side. She couldn't feel her wolf, bring her forward or shift. It happens he said after one mate marks the other and then tries to mark another wolf. Her wolf couldn't deal with the pain and went dormant until she thinks she's strong enough to handle it."

"Fuck." I whispered. Closing my eyes I rubbed my hand through my hair. "This is bad."

"I know."

"No really bad. Someone has her and she doesn't even have a wolf to protect her." Getting up I flung clothes into my bag and headed out the door. Pushing Rachel's hands off me I went to my car and drove towards Maddie's pack.

"Fuck. Get here soon. I'll get Alpha Chris and her brothers. We will start a search party." Hearing the connection end I pressed on the gas. Pressing my speed dial number 3 I waited until my third in command picked up.

"You're in charge right now. I'm going to deal with a situation. I'll be back soon."

"Ok Alpha. Want me to just tell people that no details, if they ask?

"Sure. Whatever you need to. Hey Nick? By the time I get back can you have Rachel moved out of my room?" Hearing him suck in a breath and then laugh.

"Yeah Alpha. Go get our Luna." With that he hung up. Growling at the phone I threw it into the seat next to me and headed towards my mate.
