1 Week After Arriving

The next morning I watched as two warriors spared each other. There were several sparring sessions going on in the training field, each had a varying element whether it was multiple attackers or the terrain they were training in. Watching intently I noticed several flaws in their fighting techniques. Stepping forward to get a better look I saw both of them stop fighting and face me.

"Luna Maddie." They said giving me a slight head bow.

"Please just Maddie guys." I said with a slight wave of my hand. Taking this an opportunity I walked closer. "What are your names?"

"I'm Paul and that's Jessica, Maddie."

"Paul, did you know that you give away your punches each time and Jessica the reason you are missing them is because you are watching his hands?" Seeing their shocked faces I gave a small smile and asked Paul to spar with me. We were in the wooded section so I felt comfortable if things got out of hand. Seeing Hank step back to give us room and Jessica follow suit, I took my stance and faced Paul. He looked worried but also took a fighting stance. Circling each other, I watched Pauls' eyes. Seeing them dart to my leg, I jumped over his kick and swiftly landed a soft punch to his face. Stepping back we went on like for 15 minutes. After this time I saw that Paul was getting angrier and angrier. Smirking slightly I watched him lunge and shift into his wolf. Hearing gasps from all around I swiftly dodged his oncoming attack. Getting to a low hanging branch I pulled myself up and used my vantage point to launch myself onto Paul's back. Feeling him try to roll over I jumped off and went back to my fighting stance. Dodging several lunges I shifted and got under his belly. Putting a pawed hand on his soft under belly, I felt him stiffen and then surrender. Shifting back I heard applause from all around. Looking at the crowd we had drawn I gave a small wave before helping Paul up.

"You did really well Paul!"

"You beat me at every turn!" He complained.

"I was watching your eyes. They are a dead give away when you look at where you will attack. You do it every time. You need to work on it first in human form and then in wolf form. Since our wolves go more on instinct than fighting technique, shifting can sometimes be detrimental. If you can't defeat a wolf in your human form, you'll never succeed." Shaking his hand I thanked him for the good match before I heard a booming voice from behind me. Seeing Nick I was surprised.

"She's right you know. Maddie would you be willing to work with small groups on these skills during your time here?" Looking at him shocked I just nodded. Seeing this he quickly divided everyone up into a small group. Getting my first group I shrugged and we got to work.

Several hours later the warriors were dismissed to get ready for lunch. Seeing Nick walking up to me I waited until he caught up to me before walking.

"Your group looks good. That wasn't everyone I saw my first day though." I mused to him.

"Every other day we do new warrior training in the mornings and elder warriors in the afternoon. The day you came was a day where we all train together for a few hours in the morning. It gives the new guys a chance to fight against experience but this way they don't have always feel down about losing. Plus in small groups I can work a little more one on one." Pondering over his thoughts I scrunched up my nose as the sun hit my face. "Don't like the schedule?" He asked worriedly.

"Oh no! I do like it. I think it is very smart!" I assured him, placing my hand on his arm I gave him a smile. "It was a smart move to appoint you to Captain of the warriors." I told him truthfully. Seeing his shocked face I looked over my shoulder before his soft laugh jarred me back.
