The next morning, I went to sit at my usual spot to wait for Purdy thinking I might get to walk her to class, but her bike was already parked, and when I looked around she was nowhere to be seen.

Ed was taking random pictures and videos; all the students are aware of this trait. They know Darnell and I go through the phone at the end of the month and delete them. Ed doesn't have any social media apps, so there's no harm in him posting photos online, and this is a calming tool for him.

Lunch-time was as usual at our small table tucked away in the corner of the cafeteria, so as not to draw attention to ourselves. We even had to stop going to certain classes because we were a distraction. A few teachers were uncomfortable with us being in their classes because we sometimes knew more on the topic than they did themselves, but the excuse they gave was that the other students felt intimated by us and that they couldn't concentrate, at first we thought it was slightly unfair. But now we have a study-room all to ourselves and all-day computer access so win-win to us.

There was a loud bang, as Purdy drops her well-worn bag onto our lunch table. She opens it and starts to chat with us at the same time, "Hi Nerd Boy just going to sit---" -something was wrong her face scrunched up, and she looked confused, then I thought she was going to cry. "No scratch that I must have forgotten my lunch. I will catch you later."

I heard her stomach rumble, "Wait, sit down," I told her and I went and joined the cafeteria queue. I bought skinny fries, a salad with coleslaw, two bottles of Strawberry water and paid for the items. Got two forks and sat down.

"Here," I said, handing her a fork and a bottle of water "you want some of my lunch today, I probably won't eat it all."

Oh, crap is she going to cry, she seems to be shocked, but thank God no tears.

"Thanks. You sure?" Purdy asks me.

Purdy doesn't wait for an answer she tucks right into the meal. Darnell and I talk about how much work we need to get done tomorrow, and when I glance down, she has eaten everything on the plate. She got up and cleared away her plate, taking my fork from me.

She leaned in to whisper in my ear." thank you."

When she came back, she queried, "Nerd Boy, What are you doing this afternoon?"

At the mention of my new name, my attention is immediately drawn up to Purdy's face, and I stared into her brilliant blue eyes.

"Nothing much, probably chess in the library we can't start our new math module until next week, why?" I imply.

"Good, absolutely nothing then?" she stresses. giving me full eye contact and smiling her pink smile.

"Yes, oh I do have this poem I don't understand, I've read it a million times, and I can't find the correct emotion," I mention as I shrug my shoulders.

"Okay, Nerd Boy, let's go to Art class then, and I will take a look at your poem. Does that sound like a good deal?"

"Seriously," I shout a little from over-excitement, "you want me to go with you to your Art class, for real? Will the teacher allow me to be there? What if I get into trouble? Oh boy, what if I get you into trouble?"

I am a tad agitated, and Purdy laughs and puts her hand on my shoulder, "calm yourself Nerd Boy you are going to scramble that big brain of yours, and I don't want to be responsible for that." She laughs again and puts her forehead on my shoulder.

'I have died and gone to heaven' I think to myself.
