Bilbo walked up to his front door hesitantly. He glanced around at the gathering crowd of dwarves, however, the lady Fae was nowhere to be seen. Gandalf came up behind the small hobbit and placed a hand upon his shoulder. Bilbo leaned forward and opened the door. There stood Thorin Oakenshield.

"Gandalf. I thought you said this place would be easy to find. I lost my way, twice. Wouldn't have found it at all had it not been for that mark on the door." Said the dwarf prince. Hearing this Bilbo quickly examined the door, exclaiming "Mark? There's no mark on that door. It was painted a week ago!"

"There is a mark; Gandalf put it there himself. Bilbo Baggins, allow me to introduce the leader of our company, Thorin Oakenshield." Said Fae, stepping forward from behind Kili. As soon as he saw her, the young prince's face lit up. He rushed forward and embraced her in a hug. "I have missed you." He said, "tell me again your excuse for not being able to accompany me to Ered Luin?" he chuckled stroking the side of her face.

"Because, I was too busy finding the 14th member of your company. Your burglar as you requested." Fae answered. At this Thorin smiled and turned back to Bilbo. "So, this is the Hobbit. Tell me, Mr. Baggins, have you done much fighting?"

"Pardon me?"

"Axe or sword? What's your weapon of choice?" Thorin persisted.

"Well, I have some skill at Conkers, if you must know, but I fail to see why that's relevant." Bilbo said proudly.

"Thought as much. He looks more like a grocer than a burglar." Thorin said, earning a smack on the arm from Fae. He smiled and kissed her head before walking towards his nephews and the dining room.

"Don't worry Master Baggins. Thorin will warm to you and you to him." Fae said to the hobbit. Bilbo nodded and followed the company to the dining room.

"Orcs or Goblins?" Gandalf asked

"Pardon?"

"Do you think it will be after an encounter with orcs or goblins that Thorin will warm to him?" Gandalf said to his elvish friend.

"Cin teilien bo gurth mellonnen (you bet on death my friend)." Said Fae accusingly before heading towards the kitchen.

The dwarves were sat around the large dining room table as Fae placed a bowl of soup in front of Thorin. "Thank you shinuroz kor (shining star)" he said to her.

"What news from the meeting in Ered Luin? Did they all come?" Balin asked.

"Aye. Envoys from all seven kingdoms." Thorin replied as the dwarves all murmured in joy

"What do the dwarves of the Iron Hills say? Is Dain with us?" Fae asked hopefully.

"They will not come. They say this quest is ours, and ours alone." The prince replied regretfully as the company sighed in disappointment.

"You're going on a quest?" Bilbo said. Fae sighed and looked at Gandalf, who in turn nodded and said "Bilbo, my dear fellow, let us have a little more light." With that the little hobbit scurried towards a candle situated on the table in the living room and presents it to Gandalf.

The wizard reached into his pocket and produced a map, which he placed in front of Thorin.

"Far to the East, over ranges and rivers, beyond woodlands and wastelands, lies a single solitary peak."

"The Lonely Mountain." Bilbo says, reading the map over Thorin's shoulder

"Aye. Oin has read the portents, and the portents say it is time." Gloin says
