Shannon's POV
Our son has cancer. He's been in and out of the hospital for a year now and it's breaking my heart to watch him fight for his life. My husband, Shawn took a break from recording and touring just to be there for Brandon. He's 7 years old now and he's the happiest little boy you'll ever meet. Even through the sickness, he can still make you smile. "Come on kiddo. Time for bed." Shawn said, walking up the stairs with Brandon following behind him. I turned my head and saw Shawn holding his guitar. I smiled and turned back to look out the window of the kitchen. I was zoned out for a minute or so until I heard the soft melody of "Hold On," one of Shawn's songs. Shawn's soothing voice echoed through the house. By the time he got to the chorus, I heard a small voice singing along with him. Brandon was singing too. This made my heart melt. I decided to go upstairs to hear better. I slowly walked up the stairs and sat next to the door of Brandon's room.

And my dad said "Shawn stay with me. Everything will be alright. I know I haven't seen you lately, but you're always on my mind. I don't know what you're going through, but there's so much left ahead of you. And it won't slow down, no matter what you do, so you just gotta hold on. All we can do is hold on yeah...."

I didn't noticed the tears in my eyes until the conversation I heard Shawn have with Brandon.
"Hey bud, you know how you're given a wish right?" He asked. "Yes." Brandon replied. "Well, what do you want is something you really want? You can choose anything!" Shawn said. Brandon gasped, "Anything?" He said is awe. I laughed at how excited he was. "Yep! Anything!" Shawn said, laughing as well. "Um.... Well the one thing I truly want is for you and Mommy to be happy again. It makes me said when she cries every night. I heard her yesterday, and the day before that, and every night before that! I know you are sad too. I know it's because of me and I want you to be happy again. That's my wish." He said. I sat there, staring at the wall ahead of me before breaking into sobs. "That's very nice do you bud, but you don't need to worry about us. We're very happy. We love you so much. You make us happy. We just get worried about you and want you to get better." Shawn said. I heard her say goodnight to Brandon before opening the door and stopping when he saw me on the floor crying. "Babe? What's wrong?" He said, dropping down to hold me. "Brandon.... wants us to be happy. He thinks he's the reason why we're sad." I cried harder. "Shhhh babe it's ok. He's fine. He wants us to be happy and we need to do that for him. We need to show him that we're ok. We need to smile through the tears for as long as he needs. It'll be ok. I promise." Shawn said rubbing my back. I nodded and smiled a bit. Shawn helped me stand up and we walked to our room. I laid down on our bed and pulled he covers over my body. Shawn climbed in after me and kissed my shoulder. "I love you Shannon. Good night love." He whispered. "Goodnight." I mumbled, before sleep took over my body.
