CHAPTER 28
GORRAN'S POV:
Yesterday I had had to wish my parents goodbye once more as they walked out the doors before me. Once again, I had little idea of when I would see them again. I know if I called them, they would be back almost instantly, but that wasn't fair on either of us. This was my journey, not theirs. However, I was about to welcome somebody who would be making at least some of the journey with me and hopefully would become a huge part of my life.
Finally, they entered through the doors of my sanctuary, the building where I had already learned so much. I realised that her arrival would alter my life completely no matter how your pairing worked out.
I would also have to physically and emotionally open up to the girl before me. April had always reminded me that you need to know every single thing about your partner in order to work as a successful team. They could not be a separate person, they had to be an extension of yourself and you of them.
I reached out my hand to the girl in front of me. Her long black hair fell softly over her chocolate coloured shoulder as she reached her hand out to meet mine.
"Morgan Foster," she announced as she tightly gripped my hand. She waited patiently for me to respond as I took in her appearance and studied her smouldering brown eyes as the glistened against the reflection from the glass panel in front of her. I tried my hardest to guess what her level of ability would be when it came to her powers.
"Gorran Bennett," I replied finally. "I heard that your trip here didn't go well, but I hope you will be happy that you made it," I said, hoping to break the tension which was overshadowing our initial meeting. "I've been looking forward to meeting you since I heard about you.!
"As was I!" she laughed happily. With that the formalities were concluded and the real work could begin.
We followed April and Morgan's trainer Jet up the stairs to where her room was located. It was almost a replica of mine, only with different coloured walls and marginally different styles of furnishings. She approached the room with the same shocked expression that I must have had upon my own arrival to the my bedroom.
"I presume you will want to relax and get comfortable in your new home today, so we will begin training tomorrow morning at nine. Gorran and you will then have classes in the afternoon with your tutor," April announced.
Morgan glanced furtively in my direction before she replied. It was clear that she was trying to suss me out. We still had a phenomenal amount to learn about each other. "If it is alright with the rest of you, I would really like to begin today."
It was settled. The four of us made our way to the room where I had always trained. It felt strange having someone other than April accompanying me there, at times it seemed like we were the only two people who could exist within those four walls. Even my parents had only briefly been in it and now I was inviting Morgan to enter into my world.
"I think it's time for each of you to show the other your powers. Who would like to begin?" April asked kindly. Neither of us were eager at the prospect. It seemed as if our future together and our missions had already been planned out for us, but we still didn't know if we would be able to work together.
I was extremely fearful that I might not be able to control my powers as effectively as I should or that I would even fail completely. I could sense that Morgan felt the same way. Since she had made the effort of moving to a different continent to train with me, I decided that I should begin. It seemed to be the only fair situation since she had already sacrificed so much. All I could do was hope that the demonstration went well.
