CHAPTER 25

MORGAN'S POV:

I still had no idea how to control the insurmountable feelings which had built up inside of me. Jet smiled at me knowingly as I entered the training room. It always amazed me that he was able to understand my emotions even better than I could. I sat in the chair beside him and broke into uncontrollable crying. The salted tears stung my cheek as they rolled down it, but I did not care about that, that small niggling problem was nothing compared to the overwhelming tightness in my chest as I thought about how my father had betrayed me. These powers were turning into more of curse than the gift that they had been described as to me.

"I wish I could go back to my old life," I whimpered, almost suceeding in convincing myself that it was the truth.

"No you don't Morgan," Jet whispered back calmly. "You belong here! You don't deserve to be left alone on the streets fending for yourself. Everyone here cares about you, we are your family now, he never had been. He choose not to be a part of your life years ago, and we are going to make sure that he will never be. Nobody of your age should ever be abandoned, but certainly not someone as incredible as you. You are stronger than anyone I have ever met before Morgan, you'll get through this." He pulled me into a tight embrace.

I realised that Jet was right, these people were my family. Jet was like my big brother or maybe even the father that I had never had! The wind which began howling against the windows instantly stopped as the thought occured to me.

"It looks like your weather manipulation is improving, you didn't need to be outside this time," he grinned gesturing with his left arm to the window. He was clearly thrilled by the latest success in my training.

There was a rapid but powerful knock on the door. Jet and I both looked at it questiongly, nobody had ever interrupted our training before. Jet shrugged his shoulders as he walked towards the door, his new leather shoes squeaking softly on the freshly varnished wooden floor.

He turned the catch at the top of the door, opening it wide for our unexpected guest to enter. It was the girl who had been working at reception on the day that I arrived.

I could see that her face was etched with worry as she whispered something into Jet's ear.

He looked questioningly at her after she was finished speaking, I could tell that topic was important, but not as serious as I had originally suspected.

She handed him the phone. She had been carefully covering with her hand as she spoke urgently To Jet. He took it and she exited the room without another word. I stood in the centre of the room for a while, wondering whether or not I should leave, but my curiosity got the better of me and I decided to stay and eavesdrop on his conversation, hoping to find out what all the fuss was about.

The fragments of conversation from Jet's side only served to confuse me further, they comprised of shocked noises, the words "yes" and "wow" being repeated over and over and I was sure that he was talking about me at various points during it. He was talking about the importance of adequately training invortomists, but I remembered him telling me that I was the only one he had ever met. Who else could he have been speaking about?

He finally hung up the phone and sat down in the chair, pulling it in closer to the table as he wrote quickly in his notebook. He stared at me in disbelief for a few seconds without saying a word which caused me to feel very self-conscious and almost guilty for a reason that I did not understand.

"What is it?" I pleaded. I had never been able to deal well with uncertainty, but especially not when I felt that people were talking about me.

"You are not going to believe this Morgan. I've just been informed that there is another invortomist like you!" he exclaimed.

"You told me that there was a good few of us in the world," I replied with uncertainty.

"Yes, but this is another child invortomist of similar age to you. He has only just been discovered also and is beginning his training to learn how to use his powers." It seemed that Jet was about to burst with a mixture of excitement and shock.

"Are you saying that there is another invortomist who is my age?" I was amazed at the possibility. If I was able to get into contact with him, we would be able to share our worries about our new power and maybe learn from each others experiences. "What are his powers? Is he here aswell?" I questioned, hoping that I would be able to meet him shortly.

"His name is Gorran and he is almost seventeen years old. From what I have been told, it appears that he has two powers, invisibility and telekinesis." He was silent for several seconds before he exclaimed rather loudly, "This is quite extraordinary!"

"Can I meet him?" I asked, brimming with hope.

"That is the problem Morgan. Gorran is in England with MI5." My face dropped at this answer. There was no way I could fly all the way to England, just to meet a boy whom I had just heard of. "He is currently undergoing his basic training at their base in Liverpool. However, they have heard a rumour about you and wanted to know if you would be interested in pairing up with Gorran and helping to combat problems and eliminating some of the most serious crimes in America, but also in England."

"Are you serious?" I gasped. This was an unbelievable opportunity. A couple of hours ago, I had been wishing my powers away. Yet, here they were, opening a door to me which I had never even dreamt about.

"Of course. Both of you still have a considerable amount of training left, but utilising and combining each of your powers would have a huge benefit for both countries. Also, I am sure that you would like to be able to talk about your experiences with somebody who understands them." His bright smiled caused my own feelings to mulitply. I suddenly felt overjoyed about the whole situation. "You do not have to make a decision anytime soon Morgan, it is just something for you to think about. It will remain solely your decision either way."

"Of course I want to!" I announced, I was literally bouncing up and down with excitement. "Thank you so much Jet!"
