Morgan's POV:

Falling asleep minutes after we had finished talking had been the easy thing that I had done in days. I had never felt safe in the compound because it was full of criminals and I was locked up for most of my time there. Even in the hospital, I always had a niggling feeling that something terrible was lurking around the corner for me. Now that I was back with Jet again, I felt safe once more. I knew that he would not leave any harm come to me if he could do anything to prevent it.

I blinked a couple of time after waking up. I was in a strange room in an unknown house. The whole place was silent. For a short time, I wondered if Jet had left me here. Finally, I managed to force my still exhausted body out of the soft, plush quilts. The improvement was evident in me immediately, I had far less pain when I moved. I was not in full health again by any means and I was far from it, but I was improving slowly.

"Good morning." Jet grinned at me as I walked out of the room. The house was open planned so he could see me as soon as I exited the room that I had been in. He was quietly eating a bowl of cereal.

"Have I been asleep since yesterday?" I questioned, surprised at how long I could have slept for. I remembered that it had been quite early when Jet had taken me from the hospital.

"Yes," he laughed. "You must have been very tired. You didn't even wake up when we brought you in here. The paramedic had to carry you to the bed with me and you are not light by the way." I was still too tired to think of a comeback for him. He grinned with pride as I remained silent, knowing that he had won that round of our game.

It was only when I looked down at my arms that I realised that all the wires had been disconnected from me.

"What about my medication?" I asked with confusion. The hospital had told me that I would need to stay on it for several days if I wanted to get better. That was one thing which I desperately wanted.

"Your nurse and I discussed it this morning. Your stats dramatically improved over night so we decided that it would be better for your system to remove all the drips as quickly as possible. The nurse just left to get some oral medication that you can swallow instead," he explained, still chewing on his cereal. "You can ask her for all the details when she comes back since she knows a lot more about it than me."

"What nurse?" I had a vague hope that he had somehow convinced Lucile to come with us. However, she had not been in the ambulance with us and it was unlikely that he would have gone all the way back to get her. It was also likely that she would care just as much about her other patients as me, she could not leave them just so she could follow me around the country.

"Her name is Edith and she came over as soon as we realised that the two of you were in potential danger."

Until that moment, I had temporarily forgotten about what Jet had told me about Gorran. He was a hostage and they still had no feasible way to rescue him.

"Gorran..." I stated. Jet knew what I wanted to ask before I could manage to get the words out. It hurt too much to speak or even think about what could possibly be happening to him.

"A team has been set up by April and they are currently working on a plan to get him out of there. Nothing bad is going to happen to him, I promise." He wrapped his arms protectively around me and pulled me into a caring embrace.

"You don't understand," I whispered as the tears starting to drip down my face. "They are capable of anything. Most of these injuries did not happen in the museum." I could see his face filling with anger as he realised what I meant. I continued on nevertheless. They had to understand exactly what they were dealing with. "I was locked up and beaten because they thought I had given away information to Gorran."

"I had no idea. I am so sorry Morgan. We would have made sure you had never gone if we had known. It's my fault for leaving you go there." He was blaming himself for what had happened me, but there was nothing that he could have done about it.

"Gorran tried to stand up for me, but that caused even more trouble. The boss is crazy. He does not care about anyone except himself. He could do anything to Gorran and he wouldn't stop to think twice about it." The tears were free-falling down my face at this stage and I could see that my words had had an effect on Jet today. I never wanted him to blame himself. I just needed him to understand the severity of the situation.

"I'll ring April right now. He will be alright." Jet tried his best to soothe me, but there was no promise in his words. Nobody could guarantee his safety, we could only hope for it.

Jet reached into his pocket and began to dial the familiar number. He raised it slowly to his ear. Neither of them understood what it had been like for us in the compound. It was another one of the many experiences and things that I had in common with Gorran and only him.

I could hear the phone ringing and ringing. There was no answer. He tried to smile reassuringly at me. I could see the fear hidden behind it however. April always answered her phone, especially to Jet. They had been friends long before I had met Gorran. Something important had to be happening for her to choose not to answer the phone. The second plausible reason for it, was that she was in serious trouble and could not pick up the phone. As much as I tried not to focus on the second option, it seemed more likely under the circumstances.

"I'll try again later," he said. All the remaining happiness and hope had vanished from his face. It was clear that he was thinking about something similar to me.

"We have to go and find them," I announced as I pulled on a jacket which was conveniently hanging by the door. I had no idea who it belonged to, but I was sure that they would understand.

"Morgan, we can't," he replied sadly. I could tell that he wanted to, but something was preventing him. "You just left the hospital. You need someone to watch you. I would never be able to cope if something happened to you while we were gone."

"We can't leave them alone either." I tried my hardest to convince him of my opinion, but it was clear that he was not going to budge. I understand his point of view though and I also knew, much to my own dismay that he was right.

"Once the nurse has returned, I will go and find them. You have to stay here with her though." I promised him that I would and he smiled before urging me back to my bed. I did not want to leave him, but my body was sore from standing up for so long.

I walked back to the room hesitantly and wrapped myself in the warm folds of the blankets once more.

It was not long before the nurse returned. I had not seen her before, but I knew she must be trustworthy for Jet to leave me in her care.

"Jet," I called as the nurse checked my vitals once more. I desperately needed to speak to him before he left.

"Yes Morgan," he replied. I could hear his footsteps in the hallway as he approached the room. I waited until he was standing in the door-frame before telling him what I needed to know. I needed to look into his eyes when I said it.

"Be careful Jet. I know that they are both in danger, but no matter what happens I can not lose you too. You are like a brother to me." As I spoke, he bent down and lightly hugged my frail body.

"Don't worry Morgan. Go to sleep for a few hours and by the time you wake up, the three of us will by here. I promise." Slowly his arms released their grip and I watched with sadness as he left the room. The feeling that was possibly the last I would see of him was terrifying.

I wished that he would stop promising me things that he had no control over. I could wake up to the news that I had lost all of them. I spent many hours staring at the white ceiling above me. I payed no attention to what the nurse was doing. I could only concentrate on one thing and that was the memories that I had. They were possibly the only thing that I would have to hold onto.
