CHAPTER 15
Morgan's POV:
Since I had learned of Jet’s story, his history; I had developed a new found respect for him. It almost felt as if he was my brother; he had been through almost everything that I had gone through in some way or another.
I spent one day training with each of my powers, but in those short hours I had learned so much. I understood each of them more fully as a result. The next thing that I needed to learn was how to control them. I needed to be able to use either of my powers without hesitation. A single seconds worth of hesitation when I needed them could cost me everything- including my life.
Jet has asked me to meet him at the swimming pool today. He never explained his request, but by the sound of it he had an other day of exhausting training planned for me.
“Good morning,” he laughed as I wiped away the small pieces of yellow sleep that had lodged themselves in the side of my eye, blocking the edges of my vision.
“Morning,” I replied while stifling a yawn. “So, what is today’s plan?” I was still wrecked from yesterday's work, but I was determined to show Jet how focused and willing I was to work.
“I thought you could do some training in the pool today,” he explained. “You need to build up your stamina, but I don’t want to only train with running. You'll also need to build your upper arm strength.”
Over night, the pool seemed to have considerably grown in length. The prospect of repeatedly swimming up and down it was daunting. I reminded myself that I had thought the same when I had seen the course in the woods the day before, but I had managed to complete that in record time.
My apprehension about it was undeniable though. I needed an excuse to get out of it.
“I didn't bring anything to swim in with me,” I said. I had hoped that he would have to change his mind; running all day seemed like a far easier training session.
He handed me a small black bag that had been at his feet while we were talking. I opened it to find a soft, purple towel and black swimming togs with a pink stripe running up either side.
“You will be fine,” he assured me, sensing my intense fear. My grandmother and I had always gone swimming together. Back then, I could have happily spent hours in the water, it but sense her death I had never gone near a swimming pool. She had drown in a nearby lake and I was terrified that the same faith would await me whenever I went near water.
After much persuasion by Jet, I entered the changing room which was located on the poolside. My legs shook slightly with nerves as I struggled to pull on the swimming togs.
I walked back out to the pool and placed the towel on the edge. From looking at the pool, I knew that I would most likely be frozen when I came back out.
“Where is everybody?” I asked as I stared at the empty pool and wondered how I had not noticed the lack of people before then. I had passed by it yesterday and the pool was crowded, every sun-chair had been taken and the water had been filled with swimmers of varying abilities. However, now It was completely deserted.
“They're all either working or training. I booked the pool so that you could train in it, so today it is all yours.” He winked at me as if it was a treat for me.
I nodded as I edged my left foot onto the first rung of the ladder. I jerked it back; the metal was cold against the sole of my foot. The water that had managed to lap against the base of my foot was even colder- images of ice appeared in my head as I lifted my foot back onto solid ground.
