Prompt: I see you hear at least four times a day. Maybe you should go get checked for a coffee addiction..?
AU: Human
Triggers: none
Roman loved his job at Steamin' Mugs. With the little uniforms of red aprons with little cups and white t-shirts and the amazing customers who stop by. The small coffee shop was strangely beautiful with it's peach walls and hazel flooring. Everyone who stopped in the little shop was super sweet. There was always the strange lingering scent of violets from the owner Audrey. There was even a little stage where they would occasionally hold small karaoke nights or local plays.
I swept of a stain on the counter. The machines buzzed. Lydia turned up One For The Road. I slipped a smile her way. The golden bell tinkled and I glanced at the clock. Six am. I then looked at the new customer who had wandered in.
Dark bangs hid his eyes and all black clothing covered his nearly all of his skin. Extremely noticeable bags contradicted his paleness but almost matched his tired dark brown eyes that were drawn to the floor. Each step echoed through the room.
I quickly turned my head away. Lydia winked at me. I let out a soft laugh. That bisexual floof. (yes, I have a friend who calls herself that).
He tapped his fingers across the counter.
"Black coffee, please." He nearly whispered.
Lydia nodded. "Name?"
He lets out a word I can't quite figure out.
"Vigil?" Lydia asked with confusion painted her face.
He shaked his head no and said it again.
"Virgin?" She asked.
He scoffed and I let out a chuckle.
"Virgil." He said just loud enough. "V-I-R-G-I-L."
Lydia scribbled the name in sharpie and passed me the cup. I filled it and handed it to Virgil. He let out a nod and went out the door. I watched as a crumbled piece of paper hits him and he scurried off.
Lydia turned to me. "So, you like him"
I rolled my eyes.
Six hours later, he came in again at twelve am. He ordered the same thing. Another six hours later at 6 pm he came and ordered black coffee. Finally, another six hours later at 12 pm, he came yet again and ordered the SAME EXACT THING FOR THE FORTH TIME THAT DAY.
It continued for the next three months. Every day. And how despite how I worked in a coffee shop, I did not support coffee addictions and lack of sleep. So each time he came in, I misspelled his name more each time. Each day he restarted, yet never changed his schedule.
At six pm Virgil came in. I smiled and greeted him. He's still looked down but I could see the ghost of a smile play with his lips. I turned and wrote Virgil on his cup and filled it with black coffee. I turned and called out his name, then he came and handed me the money. Later, at exactly 12 am he came in. I turned and wrote Emo Nightmare on his cup and called it out. Lydia still laughed behind my back. At six pm Virgil came again. I turned and put in the coffee and scribbled on the cup Hot Topic. I smiled at the memory of the first time I called it and him silently laughing and accusing me of thinking of him as hot. I called out the name on the cup and he came. We exchanged our things and he left.
By twelve pm I was mad. He hadn't slept in the longest time from what I can tell! He came in and I frowned, which probably wasn't good for my beautiful face. I fixed his black coffee and wrote on the name that was only for emergencies.
"Sunshine!" I call edand Virgil walked up while he scowled.
"Don't call me that." He snapped.
"Then don't depend on caffeine so much." I retorted.
"I don't." He whispered.
"What do you mean?" I questioned.
"I just want to keep the monsters out of my head." He said even quieter.
I tilted my head the smallest bit. "What ever do you mean?"
His eyes widened. "N-Nothing." He stuttered and turned to run.
"Wait!" I yelled and put my hand on his shoulder.
He flinched and turned to face me.
"Here." I said and handed the cup to him.
Virgil grabbed it and turned, but not before asking a question. "Did you mean to leave to leave your number on my cup?"
I looked into his deep brown eyes and said one word before letting him go.
"Yes."
