I sat in the jail cell with Sam and.. Jack. That was his name. It was surprising to see what was supposed to be a baby but was really a grown man.
Jack was knocked out unconscious. Sam had tased him. Which is exactly what landed us in this damn cell.
"How are you holding up?" Sam asked, placing his hand on my knee.
I shrugged. "I feel numb. Empty."
"I know.." he sighed, patting my leg.
Jack jolted up, taking in a breath. His eyes turned golden and he glared at us.
"Take it easy! We aren't gonna hurt you!" Sam said, hands raised in defense.
"You already hurt me." Jack growled.
"I know... I know... But we were just scared." He explained.
"Jack.... You have my word, we aren't going to hurt you anymore. We didn't know what you could do. We were scared. We wanted to protect ourselves. You can understand that, right?" I asked, taking slow, careful steps towards him.
Jack nodded slowly after a moment. "When I get scared, things happen."
"That's okay. Are you scared right now?" I asked, sitting next to him. His body was rigid, tense, and I didn't blame him.
He shook his head, relaxing a bit. "No."
I offered a smile and turned back to Sam. His eyebrow was raised in question, but he didn't voice his thoughts.
"I have to find my father." Jack stated. "He'll protect me."
"Lucifer doesn't do that. He's ruthless and demented." I snarled, spatting the name like venom.
"Lucifer? No. That's not his name." Jack stood and traced the lines of the bricks in the wall. "My father is Castiel."
A pang of pain like an arrow slid into my heart. "What?" I whispered, sharing a glance with Sam.
"My mother, she said Castiel would protect me. The world was a dangerous place, which is why I couldn't be a baby or a child. That's why I had to grow up fast. Where is Castiel?" Jack sat back down and looked at Sam, eyebrows furrowed in question.
"He's...." Sam started, trying to say it nicely.
"Dead." I stated, flat out. There was no use sugarcoating it. Castiel was dead, just like my father.
Jack's face fell, and I was afraid he'd launch into attack again, blaming us.
"I lost my father, too. He sacrificed himself for us. Cas sacrifices himself for you." I explained, looking down at my lap.
"Really?" He asked, looking at me.
I nodded. "Yeah."
"I'm sorry..." Jack said.
"Me too, Jack. Me too."
~~~
I couldn't breathe. Between the suffocatingly painful headache pounding in my head and the bruising on my ribs, it was hard to get air into my lungs. Stupid angels. They were just dicks with wings.
"Lapis!" Sam yelled. He rushed to my side after, assumably, getting rid of the Angels.
"Sammy?!" Dean called from the hallway.
"Right here!" He yelled back, helping me stand. He pulled me towards the exit where another angel was waiting. She had been at Pirate Pete's when we were looking for Jack.
"Don't hurt him." Sam warned.
"You're right." She said, holding the angel blade out towards Sam. I could tell it was a ruse. "If I can't have him, no one can!" She slammed the blade into Jack's chest right where his heart should be.
"Jack!" I gasped, wincing in pain after.
Sam plunged his own blade into the angel, lighting her up like a Christmas tree. We all turned to Jack, watching as he pulled the blade from his chest and held it in his hands, looking curious as all hell.
"I'm... fine..?" He said.
"That makes one of us." I grumbled. Apparently, angel blades had no effect on a Nephilim.
"Let's get out of here." Dean said, reaching for me.
~~~
I sat in the car, unable to be at the funeral pyre. Between my injuries and the suffocation of loss and pain, I couldn't stand to be outside.
The pyre burned into the night. Eventually, Sam, Dean, and the nephilim got into the Impala. Jack frowned at me as he sat next to me in the back.
"I'm sorry." He told me. "I hope your father is somewhere better."
"Me too." I sighed, resting my head against the window. I couldn't stand to be awake any longer. Maybe the darkness would overtake me and keep me there. I knew there was nowhere better for my father. I knew what it was like, where he'd be. And I wouldn't wish that on anyone, not even the King of Hell.
