Chapter 2
People started to arrive at the party at 9:30, or that’s when the DJ arrived. By the time the first song played the bar was densely crowded, and I already had a group of guys checking me out. As a matter of fact, I knew them. Not well, but they are orphans, too. They live in the boy’s orphanage across the street and had whistled at me since the seventh grade. At 10:45 the air was getting muggy and several people were already passed out. I felt a tap on my shoulder and I turned around to see one of the guys from the orphanage smirking at me.
"Hello, Nova," he says.
"Hello, stalker," l say and he smiles.
"I'd like to dance with you,"
"I know," I say raising my eyebrows.
"Will you dance with me?" He smiles at me, his green eyes bright, but there was something about that smile that made me uneasy, and yet drawn to him.
"I'll consider it." I say turning my back to him. I starting to walk towards the bar, but he grabbed me around the waist and started to pull me back towards the dance floor. I look down at his muscled arms, and think of Devon, I really shouldn't be dancing with a stranger right now. If Devon knew…
"Oh c'mon, its only a dance" he says as if reading my mind. I turn and look into his eyes and was suddenly at a loss of breath. His eyes were like green crystals. He sucks in a breath and I feel like I’m falling, his eyes always boring into mine. I look down thinking suddenly of Devon again and how this stalkers eye matched the necklace Devon had given me.
"Ok," he says. "We'll just dance."
We'll just dance? What was that supposed to mean? I had looked into his eyes and felt drained. God, what was happening to me?
He pulls me onto the dance floor and we dance to 'Call It What You Want' by Foster the People. He has his hands on my hips, and I move them for him for four reasons. One: he was extremely hot. Two: He scares me and I'm not normally scared. Three: I need to know his name but it was impossible to ask over the loud sound of the music. Four: I felt attracted to him, not physically, (though he was extremely hot) but something drew me to him. I have problems.
The song ended and l took the chance to yell over the crowd and ask him for his name.
He just laughs "I’ll tell you for another dance."
"No way " I say taking a step back.
"Ok, no dance, no name."
"Fine, one dance." I say.
We dance to 'Paradise' by ColdPlay. I close my eyes and try to get lost in the beat. The song ends and I hadn't realize that he's got so close, his brown hair was tickling my forehead. I jerk back and turn to leave.
"Hey!" He calls after me. "You forgot to ask me what my name was!"
I spin on my heel and see he’s smirking at me.
"What’s your name?" I ask in a cold voice. His smirk only grows.
"Stephan," he says.
"Stephan what?" I ask.
"Another dance will get you that,” he says.
"Not a chance," I say and stalk back, still feeling his eyes boring into my back.
