Chapter 25

I was pulled by Sammie, down to the elevator and we went down to level one. She kept chattering on and on about unimportant subjects than totally when over my head, I was too worried about what my new ‘family’ would think of me. I rubbed my hands together, my stomach tied in knots.

The elevator ringed and the doors opened.

“Don’t worry! You’ll be fine! Just be your self and you’ll fit in perfect!” she smiles at me, and try to smile back.

“Could I have a minute,” I asked.

“Sure the dining room is just around the corner, come in when your ready.”

I leaned heavily against the wall, why did I feel so tired? Just take a breath, breathe.

“Have I seen you before?” I voice startles me out of my panic. I look up and see a curly orange haired boy, about my age with bright blue eyes.

“N- no,” I answered, flustered. Had I?

“Well don’t you speak Klingon?” he asked in a hopeful voice.

“No,” who was this guy?

“Sorry, but do you have changed for a hundred dollar bill?” he said in a serous voice.

Oh, I’ve heard that one before; I roll my eyes, cheesy pick up lines and I turn to leave.

“Wait! You have something in your eye!” he persisted, and I automatically blink. “Oh, it’s just a sparkle,” he smiles at me. I shake my head and turn to leave again, but he grabs my arm.

“Hold up! You dropped something back there,” he says, still with his cocky smile, I shake my head.

“Really? What did I drop?” I laugh, playing along… just a bit.

“My, jaw,” he smirks and I shake my head, turning once more to enter and meet my new ‘family’, thought I did feel better.

“I wouldn’t go in there!” he says warningly.

“And why not?” geez, he never gives up.

“The sprinklers might go off,” I walk away, shaking my head, he’s cute.

I walk into a luxurious dinning hall; witch was on less of grand and displayed the wealth of the Scarlet’s.

“Is he teasing you with his stunning pick up lines?” a kid, about ten-ish says, rolling him eyes.

Sammie gestures me to take the seat next to her and I go there gladly. “Hi, sorry if Kyle was a bit intrusive, he’s well…” she sakes her head, “We don’t know how he got started with pick up lines,” she lowers her voice, “one day he started and has never stopped. This family, I’m telling you, they’re very interesting and all of them are vary smart, you never know what you’re going to find. You wait and see.”

And I did. When the others arrived, all twenty- eight of them, (that include the three oldest sons wife’s, and the fourth sons girlfriend), they went around the table while the food was being served and said they names to me. I didn’t remember all of them, but from oldest to youngest, it was something like this: Finn, Larcan, Colin, Evan, Pace (who was not present, and not even mentioned once), Gavin, Kyle, Sean, Cole, Liam, Darren, Anthony, Lee, Ryan, Brady, Brogan, Daniel, Soren, Rome, Alastar, Dossen, Scott, Locket (the only girl), and Edward, who wasn’t born yet.

Pace did not show up like said he would. Some how I felt off, like a part of me was somewhere else, and I realized that it was Pace. The conversations, and tones of the room didn’t feel right. I knew I was falling for him even thought my head was screaming at me no, that I was done with dramatic boys. I could hear Sammie’s words in my head, ‘he does this to every girl, they jump on him and he shakes them off.’ But it was Pace who almost kissed me, right? Does he do that to every girl that throws herself on him? I didn’t throw myself on him, right? Dose he sing to all girls who are on a plane with him and fallen asleep? Or was he just being nice and a gentleman? I tried to refocus my mind on the conversation that was going on, but I couldn’t help feeling jealous. Of what, I wasn’t entirely sure.
