Chapter 7: Haven't you missed your old man?
"But those with an evil heart seem to have a talent for destroying anything beautiful which is about to bloom."
-Cynthia RylantPreviously:
"I was right. My clothes really look better on you." His eyes were full of an emotion I couldn't really comprehend and a smirk was on his face. He was wearing his soccer jersey and a pair of black sweatpants. The sight of him, his gleaming eyes, his smirk, the way his body looked on those clothes, how he was leaning against the car with crossed arms was enough to make my heart start beating like crazy.
I had to take a few deep breaths to collect myself. Those kind of things never happened to me and they weren't supposed to happen. I don't have feelings. They're locked away in a box in a dark corner of the basement of my brain. And I locked that basement as a precaution.
"If you frown a little more, your face might get stuck that way." Noah said.
"Sorry, I zoned out for a bit." I said biting my lip.
"Don't do that." He said. The humor felt long gone on his voice.
"Do what?"
"Don't bite your lip." I stopped it and looked at him.
"Why?" I cocked my head a bit. He got closer and tucked a piece of hair behind my ear leaving his hair linger a little longer on my jaw.
"Trust me princess, your innocent little brain doesn't want to know." He said in a husky voice and the damn smirk was still on his face and his hand was still on my face.
I swear I could feel sparks where his hand was touching my skin. The blood in my veins had started moving with super speed and my heart had just ran a marathon.
I couldn't allow myself to feel that, I couldn't betray myself so I did the thing that seemed reasonable in that moment, I took a step back putting a much needed space between us.
His eyes showed sadness but it was covered before I got a good look at them so I might as well have imagined that.
Now:
I was sitting at a café down the street waiting for Father to come. I didn't tell Grams about him, she never liked him and telling her that I had to meet him because he basically controlled my life was something I wasn't planning on doing.
The door of the café opened and I looked up to see him. He was glancing around the place, obviously looking for me and when his eyes noticed me a grin broke into his face. As if he really loved me. As if he really cared. As if what happened three weeks ago didn't happen.
"Baby girl! I've missed you." He said once he got close to my table with opened arms. I didn't move though. I just sat still like the puppet I knew I was in his eyes.
When he saw my reaction his eyes darkened but he didn't let his facade fall. He came closer, hugged me and kissed me on my temple.
