"Maybe that's it, you eventually go numb because you can't break something that's already been broken."
Chapter 19: Maybe we should carpool.
Previously:
The day went by uneventfully and it was soon time to get to detention. I was walking so slowly as if the journey there could last an hour. Suddenly somebody hooked their arm with mine and when I turned my head I saw Jonathan.
"Ready for detention sugar?" He asked with a smirk.
"Not at all." I answered honestly.
"Come on it's gonna be fun." He pulled me and soon we were in the detention room.
He sat at the back of the class and pulled me down so that I was sitting next to him.
"Why are you acting like this?" I asked him.
"Like what?" He pretended to not know what I was talking about.
"Don't play dumb with me. You've acted like a really good friend all day while a week ago you were ready to hurt them. Why are you acting nice?" I laid my head on the desk as I waited for him to answer.
"Believe it or not but I'm trying to mend a broken friendship. I need my brother back." He admitted and lowered his gaze.
"It's not gonna be that easy." I told him. I knew it was going to be hard for Jonathan to receive Noah's forgiveness after everything that had happened. He didn't sleep in his own house, you couldn't actually blame him.
"I know that. But I'm not giving up."
Now:
"And here's my badass." I heard Noah's voice as I walked through the doors. He was sporting a grin, leaning against the hood of his car but as soon as he saw who walked behind me his grin was replaced by a frown.
"Glad to feel the love." Jonathan mumbled but I heard him and elbowed him.
"You deserve it." I whispered at him. I knew I was harsh but I wasn't about to go soft on someone who was a reason behind Noah's unhappiness.
As soon as I reached him, Noah pulled me closer to him. He turned me so my back was against his chest and his arms were securing me. "What was that?" He whispered near my ear.
"He's trying to make peace." I told him.
"He's lying." Noah bit out angrily.
"Just hear me out brother." Jonathan said.
"You can't call me that." Noah said through gritted teeth.
"Fine." Jonathan sighed. "Just hear me out. Can we go somewhere and talk?"
Noah thought for a while and then nodded. "Follow us with your car."
Jonathan nodded and with that we all went our ways. Me and Noah in Noah's car and Jonathan in his car.
"Where are we going?" I asked Noah who instead of answering kissed me on the lips. I let out a small gasp but quickly kissed back. He smiled into the kiss and that made me smile as well. "I've been thinking of doing that all day." He whispered and I chuckled.
"Jonathan is waiting for us to drive." I reminded him.
"Let him wait. Serves him well." He waved it off and with a smirk pulled me closer, kissing my cheek, the corner of my lips and then my lips. "You know what a great feeling it is to kiss you without being scared that you'll run off?"
