Mystery POV

I snapped awake at the sound of an ear-piercing scream. I blinked groggily as I drew my sword and silently cursed myself for drifting to sleep. As my vision cleared, I saw an enemy who couldn’t be slain by my mere sword.

“Herobrine,” I hissed his name through my clenched teeth with distaste. Lizzie struggled in the grasp of two dark-cloaked minions, as insubstantial as shadows. Herobrine stood, watching. I wanted to yell or fight, but there was nothing I could do. I knew of Herobrine’s power all too well. I saw Lizzie stiffen for a moment, and then slump into limp unconsciousness.  One of the minions swung her over its shoulder, so at least they hadn’t killed her.

I backed away, behind the tree I had previously been peacefully resting on only moments before. Herobrine swept his gaze over the forest one last time and I crouched down lower, desperately hoping he wouldn’t see me. There was an eerie silence where only the wind rustles the trees and my ragged breathing echoed in my ears. He looked away, apparently satisfied, and strode off with his minions and Lizzie in tow. I crouched there for several moments after he had gone, processing everything that had changed in less than five minutes and trying to calm my racing heart.

Finally, I stood with a determined glint in my dark eyes. I had save Lizzie. They could just take her away from me, but I would need help. I quickly tracked down Lizzie’s horse and galloped back to the house where I knew everyone would be waiting.

~

I did nothing to conceal my approach as I pushed the horse to its limits. I slowed down as I came within sight of the house and then stopped in my tracks. I froze, surveying the scene before me with a mixture of shock and horror. The house lay in ruins. Stone and wood was scattered around the clearing as if TNT had been set off. Not a single living soul was in sight and tears burned in my eyes.

What was I supposed to do now? Everyone I knew was gone. Kitty, Seto, Jerome, everyone. Even Mitch was gone. And I knew exactly who had done this. That evil bastard was going to pay. I would track down Herobrine and kill him for taking my friends away from me.

Angrily, I spun the horse around and picked a direction. I galloped away, letting the wind blow back hair and coax the hot tears from my eyes. I bowed my head and closed my eyes, letting the horse have control.

~

Almost an hour later, the horse was exhausted. It slowed down to a walk and I finally looked around.  We were unconsciously following Lizzie’s route.  I dismounted to let the horse rest and put my head in my hands, trying to think clearly through the fog of shock and anger that lingered in my mind. Everything had changed around me, leaving me behind. What could I do now? Everyone was gone. At least they weren’t dead. They were too valuable for Herobrine to kill yet, but I didn’t know how that would last. They all seemed to be people that were leaders. But what did that evil bastard want? A sick feeling twisted inside me, as if I subconsciously knew the answer to that question.

I forced myself away from that train of thought and tried to focus on how I could help them. I was already following Lizzie’s path… The realization dawned on me. Lizzie had been looking for people for help. Maybe if I got to them before Herobrine, we could save the others!

But how would I find them? And how would they react to me? If I just kept riding in the same direction, could I eventually figure it out? I would have to try at least. It was the only idea I had. With a newfound sense of purpose, I mounted Lizzie’s horse and cautiously continued in the same direction we had previously been traveling.

A/N: I know it's short, but fairly eventful with so many time skips XD Sorry for not updating, but my updates should become more frequent now *crosses fingers*. Hope you enjoyed! The new cover art was by Dahlberg_Forever! Make sure to check her out <3
