Hiding From the Dead: Chapter V
I woke up, panicking. Liam wasn't in the car and neither was Steel. Did something happen? What happened? I looked at Jayden hoping he was okay, and thankfully, he was playing with Tiger in the backseat.
"Jayden. Jayden. Where's Liam?" I asked, panicking, hoping my brother would know something I didn't.
"He's inside the supermarket with Steel. He went to look for food. But don't worry, he took the knife." Jayden said, not looking away from Tiger. One part of me got calmed because I knew where they were, but another, panicked even more, knowing he was inside the supermarket we were parked in front of, with only a knife. What the hell was he thinking?! I'm going to kill him!
I looked back and saw about four of zombies walking on the street. My heartbeat accelerated knowing that Liam wouldn't be able to fight them all. I closed my eyes and took a big breath. I was starting to panic. I couldn't go inside and leave Jayden alone in the car, but I couldn't stay in the car, knowing Liam was in danger in there. Calm down, Bree, calm down. You won't do anyone any good if you panic.
I looked at the entrance, waiting for them to come out. I was starting to worry. What if something happened inside. What if something got to them? Oh God, Liam! Why'd you have to go alone?
After a moment of almost dying of a heart attack, I saw them. They were about to walk out, but hid again as they saw the zombies. When they were far enough, Liam and Steel ran to the car and got inside.
I sighed and hugged Liam, tight.
"How could you? Are you crazy? I thought something had happened to you!" He touched my arm, and something told me to let go, or I would choke him to death. "I'm sorry." I said letting go of him.
"It's alright." He chuckled. "I'm sorry I didn't tell you anything, I just didn't want to wake you. You look so beautiful while sleeping." He gave me a bag with cans of food and another bag with lots of raw meat. Wait... what did he say? I decided to ignore the fact that he said I was beautiful as I saw him blush. Although, I blushed too at the compliment.
He cleared his throat, and pointed at the bag with meat. "That one's for Steel. I figured he'd want something to eat, and I didn't want us to be in his menu." He chuckled.
"How was the supermarket?" I asked him opening a can of chicken to give to Jayden.
"Sad. There are dead people on the floor. They have been eaten. I think this has already spread completely on the U.S. But there are only a few here in this area. I found a couple of herds on the way here, but I think the cities are most infested. There's more people there I guess." Liam said as we both opened cans for us. He was right. This seemed to be happening on every state. Maybe every hospital in the United States.
After we ate, we got back on the road. I was thankful it wasn't corned beef. Yuck! I tried looking outside but it was all boring. The only thing I could see were a few zombies who tried running to get us, but we left them behind.
After a while, Liam was kind of scared because of where we had to go. He knew the way to his uncle's bunker, but we were getting close to a city. We were sure there were going to be cars in the middle and zombies everywhere. Maybe even people that were still alive.
Liam kept driving until nighttime. We were even closer to the city, and we could see that because the more we drove, the more zombies we would see.
Our heart almost stopped when Liam ran over a dead body that was in the middle of the street.
"Liam!" I complained.
"I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I didn't see it." He said, defending himself. I looked back at Jayden.
