~ Chapter 12 ~
By the end of the night, me and Luke had probably had enough fried chicken to last us a life time. After eating our hearts out, we went and finally finished officially signing me up for the school. We got my scheduled and realized that we had lunch, jumping and science together. Besides that I knew I would probably be a loner for the rest of my classes.
After a long day of drama and everything else you could imagine, I ended right back in my empty dorm room.
"Home sweet home.." I quietly mumble to myself.
Flopping back onto my soft bed, I close my eyes and slowly drift into a heavy sleep.
**************
When I finally managed to wake up, I looked over at the digital clock sitting on the night stand. It was only 4:30am. Luckily it was just Sunday.
The events that had happened to me the day before quickly flood my memory and I sigh, reaching over for my phone and seeing a text from Dylan. A smile instantly spreads across my face.
The text read: "Hey Kiana, how's the new academy?"
I instantly felt bad. Dylan had wanted to be here just as much as I had, but he was stuck back home. Shaking my head, I quickly reply: "You don't want to know."
Standing up, I gasp as a sudden thought hits me. The race! I was supposed to race Christina in just an hour!
"Shit!"
I grab fresh clothes and quickly throw them on, grabbing an apple from a fruit basket on a small brown table and tossing it into my hoodie pocket.
I always wear hoodies.
Opening the mini fridge, I grab a string-cheese and toss it into my mouth.
Good to go. Now off to the stables.
**************
When I arrived at the stables, the first thing I noticed was how many people ha actually gotten up this early on a Sunday just to watch. Hundreds of people pilled around the track. Trying as hard as possible to ignore them, I rush into the stables and run to Bear's stall. I smile when I see Luke, standing beside a fully equipped Bear.
"Thank you so much!" I explain, wrapping my arms around him.
He laughs and hugs me back.
"I figured you probably needed a little help this morning."
"I really appreciate it."
I grab Bear's reins and begin to walk out of the stables, preparing myself for what was most likely going to be the biggest race of my life.
"Don't be nervous, just race like you would any other day. I know you have it in you, Kiana."
He smiles down at me before disappearing into the crowd of people.
Left with only his words and a huge pit in my belly, I take a deep breath and walk Bear into the racetrack.
"Let's do this boy."
