Chapter 3.8
"How was your Affinity training?" Jacey asked as soon as Adonis landed in the courtyard of the Academy.
"Great. I can zap a person with lightning now. I can't control who gets zapped, but if we stand enough people close together, I could definitely get one of them."
Sure. You also have just as good of a chance of zapping yourself or more importantly me.
I wonder. Do you think we're affected by the lightning?
Why don't you ask those extra crispy trees you fried? You think you make fake lightning?
"Anyway, how's your errand running going?"
"Great. Now that everyone pretty much knows what they're doing it's less running back and forth. I'm just trying to stay busy. Don't want Headmaster to think I'd be of better use doing some heavy lifting. I'm not cut out for that sort of work Val." Cain then landed in the courtyard out of breath; Bates hopped off and stormed over to us.
"You totally cheated."
"Did not! You're the one who left early!"
"It's not fair going up against a golden Dragon with a pretty impressive Affinity. I say you cheated."
"If you want we can give you a bigger head start next time."
What a sore loser, Adonis said.
You pretty much complained every other time we lost in the past. You said that it was unfair to go up against his strategy. Also you said that you were still a growing Dragon.
And I was. I still am.
Are not.
Am too! That or you're already shrinking.
I'm ignoring you.
"It's fine. Cain and I will totally win next time."
"So, Val, are you going to introduce me to your friend?" Jacey asked with a smirk.
"Shoot! Jacey, this is Bates. Bates, this is my friend Jacey."
"An honor ma'am," Bates said with a little bow.
"What a gentleman," Jacey responded.
"However, you can call me General Richard Batten, or General Batten for short. I'm basically in charge of all strategic planning for the Metallic Riders as well as one of the founders and arguably one of the coolest people alive."
"Not very smooth though," Jacey muttered.
"No accounting for taste I see. I'll have you know, all of that is true. Right Val?"
"I'd have to go with yes, yes, and debatable. I think you could out argue anyone else going for the coolest title. Except maybe Jacey."
"You got that right. Suck it Batten!"
"You little sneak. Never gonna trust you again. We're through," Bates said with a huff.
"Come on, General Batten. Don't be such a sour puss," Jacey joked. "You can be the coolest if you want."
"Not if I don't earn it. I don't accept charity."
"Except when you're stuck in a jail cell."
"Never gonna let that go, are you?"
"You were stuck in a cell?" Jacey asked.
"Long story," Bates and I said at the same time. Jacey laughed.
