Sun filtering through the window, muted sounds of birds chirping, warm gusts of air blowing against the back of my neck everytime the door opens... if I didn't flinch everytime the little bell went off, I would call this a beautiful day. Instead, I felt my stomach churn as I fiddled with my keys, keeping my eyes downcast. The streets around this cafe reminded me of everything I left behind. My old bandmates, my family...
Sehun stung the most, though the throbbing sting is swiftly being replaced with paranoid panic. I pulled my phone out of my jacket, swiping around with trembling fingers until I pulled up the messages I sent weeks ago. I couldn't believe I wrote those semi-confident, semi-pleading sentences with such bluntness, but they worked. The time we agreed upon has come and was slowly trickling away. Late by three minutes.
We agreed on our old spot, the bubble tea shop. I began to wonder if this would make things harder, but the sound of footsteps make my eyes fall back onto my screen, idly considering getting up and never looking back, properly this time. To never have to face those young, beautiful brown eyes ever again.
A soft voice piped up at my left. "Hyung?"
I never get what I want.
I took a final breath before looking up. The maknae pride of South Korea, Oh Sehun, stood before me. As I stood and shook his hand, I realised how much he's changed- stricter looking and older, that baby face chiselling into a sharper jawline... if I didn't look up everything about him before flying over, I could've sworn he was taller too. This is what happens when I leave for three years? I couldn't help the ache in my chest; seeing Sehun in person just made things more personal.
"Hyung, did you want to talk?" Sehun glanced around awkwardly as I faded out of my ogling. "I don't really have all day."
"Oh, right, of course, I just... well, I wanted to get bubble tea with you."
Sehun stared, eyebrows furrowing slightly. I immediately heard myself and pressed my lips together. Didn't the emails say everything? What else was there to start off with? Just as I decided to speak, Sehun spun on the ball of his foot and walked off.
Just like that.
I slowly sunk into my seat, gently placing my forehead on the tablet. Sehun can leave, I really don't blame him. I'll just die here, at this very table. Maybe sink into the floor, become a puddle of regret. Amidst my thoughts of remorse, I heard a cup softly placed in front of me. I slowly rolled my head onto my cheek, coming face to face with a large cup of Taro bubble tea.
"They upped the price since we were last here, but what else is to be expected?" Sehun made himself comfortable, fixing his hoodie absentmindedly "What was that whole thing with your girlfriend being pregnant?"
I let out a laugh despite myself, rubbing my face with a dramatic moan. "Yeah, rumours are a bit vicious sometimes."
Sehun's smile grew wider throughout our conversation, and I noticed my cheeks hurt from the suppressed laughter. Dating, music, shifting worlds and daily nuisances were shared and discussed. Our feet intermingled under the table, drinks and snacks were shared, as I smugly refused to acknowledge Sehun's early comment of not having the entire day. I would help him get his time back, until then he was mine for a bit more.
