Chenkai pt. 3

There Kai was.

Feeling guilt pour all over him. 

And somehow Chen had his smile back on.

How did he do it? Kai knew he was hurting inside -he heard Chen's small sniffs inside the bathroom before the ceremony- and yet he was perfectly fine here. 

Suddenly Chen leaned over and whispered, "Stop looking so dead, you're scaring fans."

Kai sighed and whispered back. "I'm sorry."

Chen didn't hear the first time, so he leaned in. Kai repeated himself, this time his voice cracking slightly. Chen looked to him, showing something in his eyes.

Relief.

He put Kai's hand on his knee and put his own hand over Kai's, sending a comforting warmth to Kai. He let go after a couple seconds, breaking Kai's heart. Kai slumped over and leaned into Chen, moaning.

"Baby, I'm sorry!" He moaned quietly, clutching onto Chen's thigh. Chen allowed a smile and put a hand on Kai's back, knowing Kai was clearly suffering.

"It was a dare," Kai mumbled, sitting back in his chair.

"What?" Chen whispered, surprised. Just then, they were called up stage. When they got back, Chen immediately demanded an explanation. As soon as Kai finished, Kai drooped his head as tears welled in his eyes.

"I'm a horrible person."

"Kai, I don't blame you for anything." Chen took his hand, lacing their fingers together. "Look, it was pretty stupid to play with my emotions like that. But you gave me a pretty darn good show, and a really good time. Please don't beat yourself up for this."

Kai glanced up, and Chen's motherly smile made him feel warm. As soon as EXO came back to the dorms, they all had to choose new rooms and new roommates. Kai and Chen immediately knew they wanted to stay with each other. They ended up falling asleep together, Chen caressing Kai's hair as Kai dozed off. Sure, they might not be together...

"Chen?"

"Mm?" Chen mumbled, now snuggled up to Kai.

"What do you say to a few random dates here and there?" Kai said, trying not to doze off then and there.

"That sounds... not bad." Chen decided, smiling up at the younger one.

"Tomorrow dinner it is." Kai sighed contently before falling asleep. Chen smiled tiredly before dozing off too.

No, not a couple. Just weird friends.
