"Joe, its 2 in the morning." Valoria said when she answered the phone, rolling over in bed.She heard the male chuckle over the phone. "You say that as if you were asleep."
"You saw me a few hours ago and you know I'm definitely not sleeping." The brunette sighed, curling onto her side. "Anyway, why are you calling?"
"Can't I call my girlfriend at two AM?" Joe inquired, causing Valoria to roll her eyes. "If you called me for no reason, I'm hanging up."
"No, don't!" Joe's desperate tone caused soft giggles to errupt from Valoria, who attempted to stifle them to not be heard. "I wanted to pick you up."
"Another late night adventure?" The brunette teased, and the male let out a chuckle on the other end. "More like I just want to cuddle, but lets go with adventure."
Although Valoria was tired, she agreed to the trip anyway and closed the line with Joe. She got up and did nothing more except putting on a bra under the dress shirt she was already wearing, as well as putting on knee high socks.
Once she recieved the text that Joe arrived, she quickly slipped on her sneakers and headed out to Joe's car. "One day," she began as she situated herself in the passenger seat, "I'm going to get caught sneaking out like a little teenager and my mom will end me."
Joe laughed, driving away from her house and heading back to his. "Why don't you live alone anyway? You're twenty-three and perfectly capable."
"Well, firstly, I don't want to live without Finn. He's great company and if I did move out he would be over all the time, so it makes no difference. Second, my family and my former therapist don't see me as fit to live alone because of fear of relapse."
"Wait, you had a therapist?" Joe's voice held no judgement, only curiousity, causing Valoria smile, clearly amused.
"I had one up until a few months ago, actually. I stopped visiting him because he announced I didn't need therapy anymore." Valoria explained, leaning her head against the window. Although she couldn't sleep, she was still tired and it was still late at night.
Joe drove the rest of the way in silence, the only noise passing between them being the car radio playing lowly. Once they reached Joe's apartment, they decided to lay in his bed, seeing as it was late and Valoria did intend to spend the night.
Joe turned on Netflix as Valoria curled into herself under a blanket, a yawn escaping her lips.
"I thought you'd be more awake than this." Joe chuckled, sitting down beside her as he scrolled through the Netflix menu. "I am awake." Val huffed, "but I haven't been getting proper sleep in the past three days. Can you blame me?"
Joe turned to brunette, his eyebrows furrowed slightly. "Why haven't you been sleeping?"
Valoria let a sigh escape between her lips, "I don't know if you've noticed, but most of the world kinda hates me right now. Its kinda making me hate myself too, and all I want to do most nights is get wasted."
"Val, babe, stop." Joe began with a sigh, pulling his girlfriend towards him so she sat on his lap, his hands on her hips and his gaze fixated in hers. "I could care less about all the hate you're getting on Instagram or Twitter or wherever the fuck assholes choose to send you hate. You're not anything they're saying, you're beautiful, smart, funny, and incredibly strong. You deserve the absolute world and none of the hate you get, so please stop listening to all that fucking bullshit because it blows my mind that you doubt yourself as a person all because you have a history with substance abuse."
When he finished, he took in a deep breath as he awaited Valoria's reaction. She was awestruck, her parted slightly in shock and her cheeks holding a faint blush. She didn't know what had overcome her, maybe it was the fact that Joe always knew just what to fucking say to make her heart beat speed up, or maybe it was the proximity between the two, or maybe it was the way that Joe stared at her, with constant adoration in his eyes for the brunette.
Regardless of the exact reason, Valoria cupped Joe's face between her hands and pulled him close, pressing his lips against hers.
It was as if Joe knew it was coming because he wasted no time in tightening his grip on her hips and kissing her back with fervent urgency. Valoria could feel her heart pumping rapidly in her chest as she moved her hands into his hair, her fingers tangling themselves in the brown locks as Joe deepened the kiss by tugging her closer.
His tongue slid across her lower lip and Valoria allowed the kiss to deepen, a soft moan escaping from her throat and into the kiss. Valoria finally pulled away after the kiss had reached a certain intensity, not wanting the pair to rush into something they were going to later regret.
Both her and Joe's chests rose and fell rapidly, her heart beating intensely as she gasped for breath. Once he managed to grasp most of his breath and he wasn't panting as much, Joe gave Valoria a confused look. "What happened to taking it slow?"
Valoria's cheeks flared up, an embarrassed smile playing on her hips as she slipped her hands from his hair down to his neck. "Did you not like the kiss?"
"Quite the opposite," Joe said, giving her hips a small squeeze, "I want to do that again."
Valoria giggled softly, gazing at Joe with a bright smile. "I messed up your hair."
Joe let out a low laugh. "Usually I'd be upset, but I didn't mind your fingers in my hair at all."
Valoria raised one eyebrow, moving her fingers to play with the hair that was at the nape of his neck. "Hm? Why's that?"
Joe leaned forward and pressed his forehead against Val's gently. "Because the way you did it is a fucking turn on, Val, yet we're meant to be taking it slow."
Valoria's cheeks heated up as her lips formed a small grin, and she leaned in to press another kiss to Joe's lips. This kiss, although not as deep as urgent as the first, still held as much passion and emotion in it to cause Valoria's heart to soar in her chest.
When they pulled away the second time, the brunette simply rested her head against Joe's chest, listening to his heart pounding in his chest at the same rate her own heart was pounding in her chest.
"What are you doing?" Joe asked Valoria softly, and the brunette smiled. "I'm checking."
"Checking what exactly?"
She pulled away from his chest to meet his gaze. "I wanted to know if your heart was beating as fast as mine is."
Joe reached out his hand to tuck a strand of hair behind Valoria's ear, a gentle smile playing on his lips as he held her chin between his fingertips.
"Believe me, Val, my heart hasn't done this much with anyone else but you."
