"Her dad was a wolf, her mum isn't. Her wolf has been trying to get out for around two months now, but her human side keeps fighting against it. She gets like this when she's scared, threatened and sometimes angry." I explain in a whisper, as to not scare or startle her.

I've only seen her like this a few times and it never ends well. Last time she was like this she ran into the woods and me and the pack were looking for her for four hours straight before we found her soaking wet, laying next to the river crying.

It doesn't matter how fast we run or how hard we pin her down, she always gets away. She just needs to let her wolf out and take over. I can see her wolf eating her away, clawing at her skin. Her human side is too dominant. Her mother isn't helping the equation either.

I turn my attention back to Riley who is still cowering in the corner. She's clutching the knife like her life depends on it. This isn't your fault. It's mine, I got angry, I took over. My wolf apologizes. I hate this. She needs to shift.

"Riley, just let go. Let your wolf out. Don't be afraid. She will look after and protect you."

She looks me in the eyes, and for a second her eyes widened and she looked like a true pup.

And then. . . .
