Chapter 10: He's Worth Protecting

Sonic's Pov

After my nightmares, Shadow calmed me down and let me cuddle with him so I can sleep better and not have any nightmares. After cuddling with him, I didn't have any nightmares. I felt safe being in his arms. I woke up seeing the sun peek through my curtains. I look up to see Shadow still asleep. I smiled knowing how cute he looks. I love him so much. I cuddled into his chest fur and thought of how soft it is. I close my eyes just for a bit and then I felt someone stroking my quills. I look up to see Shadow's ruby red eyes. "Morning my love, how did you sleep?" Shadow asked with a smile. "I slept good, now that you're here with me" I said while cuddling with him more. "I'm glad you slept better" Shadow said while kissing my forehead. I giggled and kissed his cheek. I wanted to stay in bed all day with him but that moment got ruined. We heard the door knock. "Who is it?" Shadow asked. "It's Silver, can I come in?" Silver asked. "Sure" Shadow said and sat up. He helped me sit up so I don't hurt myself in the process. Silver came in and sat on the bed. "Hey guys, how did you sleep?" Silver asked. "Great" Shadow said while holding my hand. "That's great, me and the others wanted to know if you guys want to go to the park with us, we're going to have a picnic" Silver said with a smile. "That sounds nice, do you want to go Sonic?" Shadow asked. "I would love to but I still can't walk" I said putting my head down. "Hey it's ok, I'll help you walk, that way you can still hang out with your friends" Shadow said while bringing my head up to look at him. I smiled, "thanks Shadow" I said. "Great, I'll tell the others. We're going to leave around 5pm. So we got plenty of time to get ready, what kind of snacks would you like for us to pack?" Silver asked. "Cookies!" I said with excitement. Shadow and Silver chuckled. "Okay, what kind of cookies would you like?" Silver asked. "Chocolate chip" I said. "Okay, we-" Silver got cut off by Shadow. "I can make the cookies, it won't take long and besides Sonic loves my cookies, right Sonic?" Shadow asked. "Yes, his cookies are the best" I said with a smile. "Well alright then" Silver said while getting up and leaving me and Shadow alone. "Shadow?" I called to him. "Yes?" Shadow said. "What if...." I stopped my sentence. "Sonic, what's wrong?" Shadow asked while putting his hand on my cheek. I sighed, "what if Jet is at the park?" I asked scared that Jet will do something. "He won't and if he is, me and the others will protect you from him. I won't let him hurt or get near you, I promise" Shadow said while pulling me into a hug. "Thank you Shadow, I just hope he's not there" I said while hugging back. "I hope so too, you're important to me" Shadow said. Awww, he cares about me so much. "You're important to me too, I love you Shadow" I said while letting go. "I love you too Sonic" Shadow said and kissed me on the lips and I, of course kissed him back. We broke the kiss and smiled at each other. "Come on, let's go downstairs" Shadow said while getting out of bed. He carried me downstairs to the kitchen. We see all of our friends talking and planning what we're going to do at the park. "Hey guys" Shadow said while putting me down on a chair. "Hey you two, sleep well?" Fleetway asked. "Yup, we slept great" Shadow said while smiling at me and I smiled back. 

Shadow's POV

Sonic smiled back at me and I love seeing his real smiles. "So what did you guys plan so far?" Sonic asked the others. "Well, we're going to have a picnic of course and then we can play a game" Rouge said. "And also they will be doing a firework show so we're going to watch that" Knuckles said. "That's awesome, can't wait to go" Sonic said with a bright smile. "Let's start getting the stuff. It's the afternoon so let's get it now, that way we have time to get ready" Rouge said. "Okay" we all said at the same time. Rouge, Knuckles, and Tails went to the store to get some drinks and some snacks. Me, Sonic, Mephiles, Silver, Fleetway, and Scourge stayed at the house to get materials we need at the park. "Okay let's get to work, I'll get a blanket" Silver said. "I'll help you" Mephiles said while getting up and walking towards Silver. "Thanks Mephiles" Silver said. "I'll look for a basket" Scourge said. "I'll help you look" Fleetway said while walking towards him. "Alright cool" Scourge said. "And I'll start baking the cookies" I said while getting up. "What can I do?" Sonic asked me eager to help. "You can sit here and just talk to me while I bake the cookies" I said while getting the ingredients out. "But I want to help you, please" Sonic said while grabbing my hand. I looked at him and he was doing the cutest sad eyes. I chuckled, "well alright, you can stir the wet ingredients while I stir the dry ingredients, okay?" I said. "Yay!" Sonic said with excitement. I smiled and kissed his cheek. Sonic giggled and I love it when he giggles.
