Chapter 37

Recap: Varna falls sick- Isha slaps Veena- Sharan consoling Isha

Narrator's POV

The next day

Isha woke up form the bed and peeled at the clock to see that the time was past six. She looked lovingly at her sister's face and checked her fever.

She sighed in relief when she realises that Varna's fever had come down considerably.

She slipped out of the room careful not to make too much noise and moved to check on her other sister.

She walked into Priya's room only to be greeted with Veena's tired sleeping face. She felt a weight settle on her heart as she moved closer to Veena and settled down on the bed beside her. A tear escaped her eyes.

She caresses Veena's hair and placed a kiss on her forehead.

"I'm really sorry angel. I will forgive any mistake you do but I can't bear the thought of any of you suffering even if it's from a small fever" she muttered such that her voice was audible only to her own self.

She left the room and moved to Sharan's room, sorry her room to discover a blissfully asleep Sharan. Without disturbing him she walked into the washroom to freshen up.

She then walked into the kitchen where Janimaa was already waiting with her morning coffee.

"Good morning Janimaa" she greeted the older lady.

"Good morning dear" Janimaa greeted her back.

"You are early today?" Isha questioned her.

"I thought it might help you if I am here to handle the kitchen what with Varna feeling a little under. By the way, how is she now?" Janimaa asked her.

"She is better now" Isha thanked her for the coffee and left the kitchen.

She spotted Durga in the living room but hesitated to walk to him remembering the incidents of the previous night.

"What happened? Why are you crying?" Durga asked and only then did she realise that tears had started to cascade down her face.

Before she could wipe them, Durga walked to her and wiped them surprising Isha.

"Why are you crying Ishu?" He asked her.
"Appa, my intention had never been to hurt Veena. It all happened suddenly but I am responsible for it. You can scold me if you want to" she spoke still crying.

Durga laughed at her childish behaviour while she stared at him confused.

"Dear why are you feeling guilty? They are your sisters and you have the right to punish them. Don't worry about it. If their mother had been there yesterday then she would have done the exact same thing. Moreover both my daughters consider you as their mother and a mother has the right to punish them. My children are lucky to have you in their lives" Durga consoled Isha.

Isha wanted to ask him about their mother but something stopped her from doing so. This didn't seem like the right time. She walked to her room and placing the cups on the table proceeded to wake Sharan up.
