It was bad. I was surrounded and my arm didn't start bleeding. I could easily take one of them, but three? I couldn't, not when I was profusely bleeding with my sight going blurry. So far, I managed to avoid the arrows that were mostly aimed at my wings. Those bastards, no way would I let them take my wings away.

They started to approach me and I analyzed my options. I really didn't have much of a choice. I was planning to get help, but not in town, too much people could get injured. Our house, Ryan was supposed to hold a war council and they generally came armed. Set on the idea, I flapped my wings, so I'll get some altitude and without warning, I made a sharp turn. I heard someone shout to get me, but I didn't look back. I just put all my strength into flying and hoped that I flew fast enough.

"Don't let him escape!"

I heard them shout and the flapping sounds of their wings were getting louder. I pushed harder, I had to fly faster, faster, faster!

When I saw the rooftop of our house, I let out a sigh of relief before something slammed on my back. It hit me so hard that it cut my breathing. The next thing I knew, I was falling down. My body... It won't move!

"Catch him!"

I opened my eyes and saw two of them coming at me. I tried to look down and saw a glimpse of the trees before I hit the leaves and branches. I cried out in pain when something stabbed into my abdomen as I heavily fell on the ground. I groaned and tried to sit up, but the pain... The pain was too overbearing. I was breathing heavily. The enemies landed meters in front of me. I was sweating or was it blood?

"Let's hurry, others may come."

Two of them walked toward me. They put their hand under my armpits and lifted me up. I moaned in pain.

"Fuck, he's heavily injured! The Prince will kill us if he dies!" stated one of them in panic.

"What should we do?! He's rapidly losing blood!"

"Calm yourself down!" shouted another one making the others shut up. "Let's stop the bleeding, then we will bring him to a d-"

The man was interrupted by a mighty roar. My eyes glanced up and saw Lena with Ennur not far behind charging at us. The men let go of my arms making me fall on my sides making me gasp for air.

My vision was darkening and I could hear shouts, roaring, screaming, pleading and finally whimpering. A blurry shadow appeared on top of me. Slowly, something extremely warm and comforting hands lifted me up before putting me back down. I whined at the lost of contact, but the person only shushed at me.

We started to move and soon, we were in the sky, the big blue sky. I forgot how big and how high it looked like. It was always, always out of my reach. I didn't notice that I raised my arm until the warm hands took mine in his.

"I'm here now..." were the last words I heard before everything went black.

Ryan POV

Fuck! I was so damn close losing him! If I came a second later, he could have had died! The ground was stained by his blood when I arrived. I should have gone with him. I couldn't believe that they would attack in broad daylight! I punched the wall in front of me as I watched my brother save my mate.

I turned and faced the generals who were waiting for my orders. "Tonight," I gave them the confirmation they were waiting for.

"We promise that we will avenge your mate, our King. As well as all others who had suffered by their hands, " said Helena as the others nodded.

I gave them a firm nod and they all walked away in different directions. I silently watched Zack tend to my mate when I heard multiple loud footsteps. Rose, Keith mother, Angela, Sebastian and another woman were running toward me.

"Is he okay? My baby, where is he?" she asked as panic was filled her whole being. Her wings were trembling and all puffed out. When she saw my sleeping mate on behind Zack all covered in thick bandages, she fell on the ground sobbing. I succeeded to catch her in time before she heavily fell on her knees. We never told her what happened before Keith got back his wings. He didn't want to tell her. So, seeing his younger child so badly injured must be very stressful for her. I tried to calm her down, but she couldn't stop sobbing as she watched her child.

"I'm sorry," I apologized, "I couldn't keep him safe. It's all my fault, if I had gone with him, then nothing of this would have happened," I guiltily explained to them as they all watched me. "I couldn't protect him... Again..."

Soft hands gently grabbed my cheeks as she lifted my head up. Even crying and suffering, she managed to smile like an angel, "We don't blame you," she softly said with her eyes still moist. "I knew he couldn't avoid being injured... It is war after all. But, I just couldn't bring myself to accept it."

Then the door opened as Zack came out of the room. He sighed heavily. It could mean anything. "Brother..." he started making me jump up. He would only call me that when it was serious. It can be! He can't be... "He's alive."

I heard everyone sigh in relief, but I knew this look and it wasn't good. He wasn't telling us something. I got even more nervous and asked: "What's wrong?"

"He's alive, but I don't know when and if he is going to wake up. He lost too much blood and his capacity to survive all depends on him."
