Chapter 46

My classes started a few days later and my new assistant, Macy and I were off to a great start. The class was good sized, a good attendance, but small enough were I was able to get to know a majority of the students. Macy was a huge help to me and I knew I had made the right decision in hiring her. A few of my co-workers knew that I was dating Dave and by now I was obviously pregnant, but I didn’t like to talk about my personal life with my students. I heard whispers when I would walk into class, but they would stop as soon as I began the lesson for the day.

One day, when Macy and I walked into class, there was a magazine clipping taped to the blackboard. I walked over to inspect it. It was ripped out of an US WEEKLY, my favorite, and showed Dave and I walking down the street, holding hands, my baby bump clearly visible.

“A New Foo?” I said, reading the headline out loud. “That’s actually kind of clever.” The class laughed. I read on, “Dave Grohl, Former Nirvana Drummer and Foo Fighter Front Man planning to welcome the newest edition to his family with his much younger girlfriend, Kate Sullivan. Sources say the couple are due this winter, and that Kate as been spotted buying up several blue baby items! This will Grohl’s third, along with his two daughters from his previous marriage to former MTV producer, Jordyn Blum.” I folded the article and slipped it in my bag. “None of that will be on the mid-term,” I said, launching into my lesson for the day.

The following week, the same thing happened. I arrived at class to see another clipping from US WEEKLY taped up to the blackboard. This time, it showed Dave, me and the girls. I had Hayden on my hip and we were heading out of a toy store. Dave was holding Violet’s hand in one hand and in the other he held several bags containing the purchases we’d made. The caption read “One happy little family: Dave Grohl and girlfriend Kate have a nice day out with Grohl’s daughters.” I frowned, growing irritated.

“Alright,” I said, slapping the clipping down on the podium. “You want to talk about this?” I asked. The class murmured what sounded like an affirmative. “Ok,” I said, looking down at my watch. “I will devote two minutes to this, and then can we PLEASE move on?” A collective “yes” filtered through the class. “Yes, this is me. Yes, I date Dave Grohl. Yes, I’m pregnant. Yes, it’s a boy. Questions?”

“How’d you meet?” a cute blonde girl, sitting in the front of the room asked.

“I met him in a hotel bar,” I said simply.

“What’s he like?” another girl asked.

“He’s awesome,” I said, smiling. “He’s even more amazing that you’ve imagined.”

“Have you met John Paul Jones?” a male student sitting towards the back asked.

“Yes. He’s very cool and very down to earth,” I answered. “And incredibly talented.”

“What about Paul McCartney?”

“Not yet, we have plans within the next month to have him over for dinner,” I said, quickly. “You have one minute left.”

“Is Jack Black really that crazy?”

“Crazier.”

“Can we meet Dave?” the blonde asked again.

“Probably not,” I said.

“What is Everlong about?”

“I have no idea.”

“When are you due?”

“January.”

“Are you going to get married?”
