Chapter 48

*~*~*Dave’s Point of View*~*~

I put Kate to bed, then went back down stairs where Tay and Chris had already helped themselves to a cold brew.

“Thanks for grabbing me one,” I said sarcastically, seeing they hadn’t bothered to open a bottle for me.

“It’s good for you to do things for yourself,” Taylor said with a smirk. I cracked the top off of an ice cold Red Stripe and held it to my lips.

“Thanks for all your help today guys,” I said sincerely, joining them in the living room.

“You owe us big time,” Chris said. “I don’t even help my own family move.” I laughed and held up my bottle in acknowledgement of all they’d done. “So is Kate ok?” he asked me after we all took a swig off our beers.

“Yeah, she just over did it today,” I said. “There is no stopping that woman.”

“I know,” Chris said, shaking his head. “It’s just… she complained of a head ache all day and she got dizzy right before we left Lisa’s…” I waved him off. I know that Chris and Kate are really close with one another and that Chris was probably just as over protective of Kate as I was.

“She’s just tired,” I said, not really worried. “It was lights out as soon as her head hit the pillows.” Chris screwed up his face, like he wanted to press the issue, but didn’t.

“You guys got enough energy for some Modern Warfare?” Taylor asked.

“Fuck yeah!” I said, smiling. I reached for the controllers and we booted up the Play Station and settled in for a game or two. We finished our beers, paused the game and each cracked open another. I had just finished my second beer when I had to pause the game again to go take a piss. I jogged to the bathroom, pee’d, then made my way back to the living room. When I returned, Taylor was sitting there alone.

“Where the fuck is Shiflett?” I asked.

“He had to piss too, he ran upstairs,” Taylor said. “Let’s un-pause it and kill him.” I was considering doing just that when I heard Chris yell my name from upstairs.

“Get up here NOW!” He cried. I flew across the house and up the stairs.

“Where are you?” I yelled out.

“Master Bath!” he cried. I ran into our bedroom and flipped on the light and dashed into the en suite bathroom. Chris was sitting on the floor, cradling Kate in his arms. She was grimacing, both hands pressed to the sides of her head. She was bleeding from between her legs.

“What the fuck?” I said, dropping to my knees beside them. “Katie, what’s wrong?”

“My head hurts so badly,” she whimpered through her gritted teeth. “And I’m bleeding… I tried to yell for help, Chris came…” I pulled her from Shiflett into my arms. Taylor appeared at the doorway behind us.

“I’m calling 911,” he said, disappearing back into the bedroom.

                “Dave,” she groaned, “My head…”
