It was unusuallydark, and it was all still a mess. The tent from the wedding torn and broken tables, shattered glasses, streamers and popped balloons were strewn across the lawn. The burrow looked damaged and the front door was swung open, as well were the windows, showing that Death Eaters had broken in and taken what they wanted.
There was a strange, green tinge to the sky, and very few patches of green grass left.
Saffron looked at the seen in despair, memories of the night flickering back to her. The way Greyback looked at her, the evil grin he wore, the way he nearly murdered her.
She came back from the memory. Charlie had saved her that night. She looked over at Charlie to see his eyes glitening and could only imagine how he felt.
He felt worse than he ever had. His brothers wedding had been ddestroyed, his childhood home destroyed and broken into, and his youngest brother-gone!
Charlie remembered when he had gotten to the burrow just before the wedding. Everyone as happy as thy could be at the time. And yet it had all been ruined. Harry got away though. With Ron and Hermione and Charlie hated that the only thing they could do was hope that they would be ok.
Saffron slowly made her way over to Charlie. He didn't move or even flinch as she lifted her hand up to place it on his shoulder. His head turned slightly and Saffron could see a tear threatening to spill but Charlie quickly blinked it back.
He took one more look at the destruction before tirning around.
"Come on," he said quietly. Saffron follwed him to a large tree behind them. The tree had been situated directly over the underground burrow. The roots were what made the walls and the frame of the house. It was where everyone would sit from and watch. You could scan the area perfectly from the top, but noe one could see you.
Charlie began to climb first, helping Saffron up as he went along. He got to the top branch and reached down and took her hands and helped pull her up. They settled themselves carefully on the branch that had been widened by Mr. Weasley. Their wands were in their hands and they looked around in silence.
"How long until it'll be safe to move back up here?" Saffron asked looking directly at the burrow.
"Your sick of being underground arent you?" Charlie asked with a small smile.
"Yeah, I guess so," She smiled.
"So am I," Charlie agreed. "But I don't know when it'll be safe again. Probably not until you know who is destroyed. And who really knows when that'll be," he sighed.
Silence fell upon them again and Charlie sighed.
"I really am sorry about the other night, I didn't mean to-I mean, I wasn't paying attention, I was-"
"It's fine," Saffron smiled slightly looking away. "I overreacted. It's fine. It's over now nayway. We don’t have to talk about it," Saffron cut him off.
"Thanks," Charlie gave her a sincere smile and turned back to scanning the area.
"So how are you liking it in the Weasley place," Charlie grinned.
"I love it," Saffron smiled happy.
Charlie looked at her surprised. Most people were running from the house after a week and yet she loved it? Saffron noticced his surprise and laughed.
"Is that so shocking?" she smiled.
"Well, yeah," he laughed.
"Your family is just, well, you're all so welcoming,a nd friendly and loving. You are all so close and caring. And I've only been here a short while, but you all just do so much to make it feel like home to me and it's nice to have people care," Saffron admitted, avoiding eye contact.
"What do you mean, it's nice to have some people care? What about your family?" Charlie asked looking at her concerned.
"Oh my family, well um… Well they did care once…," Saffron trailed off.
"But not anymore?"
"No."
"Well, why not?" Charlie had tried not to pry into her business but it wasn't getting him anywhere.
"Because they're no long around," Saffron sniffed, trying bad to keep the tears from forming in her eyes. She did not want to cry in front of Charlie.
"You mean….," Charlie didn’t know how to say it.
"Yeah," Saffron looked up at the sky. "Dead."
"I'm so sorry," Charlie stuttered moving closer to her and putting a comforting hand on her shoulder.
"It's ok," Saffron smiled sadly.
"Is it ok if I ask how?" Charlie asked curiously and instantly regretted it. "I'm sorry. You don't have to answer. I'm sorry, I shouldn't have asked."
"No, no it's ok," Saffron said quickly. For once she didn’t mind talking to Charlie. She was unsure whether it was because she felt so comfortable around him, or she just want to get it off her chest now. Either way, she cured Charlie's curiosity.
"When I was ten my mother, the muggle, was diagnosed with cancer and she died when I was eleven. I grew up close to my Dad but when I was eighteen he was killed by Fernrir Greyback and I was always an only child, so from then on it was me, myself and I."
Saffron had tears now. She had loved her mother and adored her father and the memories of their deaths destroyed her.
"Saffron, I'm so sorry. I should have asked," Charlie said, he moved closer and put a comforting arm around her shoulders and for once Saffron didn't cower away, instead she snuggled into his warm body as she let the tears fall silently from her eyes.
"No, don't apologise," Saffron sniffed. Charlie just hugged her closer, scanning the area.
They sat there in silence for a few a while before Saffron sat up.
"Sorry," she said wiping her eyes," I', supposed to be helping."
"Don't apologise. It's fine."
They sat there in silence for the next hour before Charlie spoke up.
"Is that why you stayed? Because you have no other family?"
"Partially. It was a reason that kept me here," she agreed.
"What were the other reasons?" Charlie asked.
Saffron froze in thought. Was couldn't say why she had wanted to stay because she thought Charlie did.
"Because I thought you needed me, when your mum was unwell," she said.
"Yeah, but what about after that?" he asked.
Saffron opened her mouth but closed it again. She shuffled on her seat before replying and the next thing she knew, she was flying through the air and hit something with a smack and blacked out.
