After a bit of time Papyrus put a hand on Frisk's shoulder and yelled in his normal voice, "HEY FRISK, I THOUGHT I'D TELL YOU KNOW SO I DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME! ALPHYS CALLED ME RIGHT BEFORE SHE LEFT HER LAB, AND WELL, SHE TOLD ME TO ASK YOU TO GO BACK TO HER LAB WITHOUT HER. SHE SAID SHE LEFT A NOTE ON THE FLOOR..." He hesitated and then continued in a more curious voice, "I... I THINK THERE MAY BE SOMETHING WRONG... SHE SOUND MORE SCARED AND NERVOUS THAN SHE NORMALLY IS, AND FOR ALPHYS THAT'S QUIET HARD TO BEAT... ANYWAYS I THINK YOU SHOULD GO AND CHECK IT OUT."
Frisk's mind was swirling with questions. But they hid it well from Papyrus and smiled back up at him instead. Then they turned and took off towards the Boat Person while waving a silent goodbye. Papyrus called a goodbye back. Frisk flung themselves onto the boat and they headed off to Hotland.
Once there Frisk started up the stairs and went inside of Alphys's Lab. They didn't even attempt to look for the note first, Frisk slide down the wall and let an extended and exhausted sounding sigh. I completely forgotten that humans need sleep. How long has it been since Frisk slept? If I remember correctly the last time they actually closed their eyes was back a Toriel's, right? If so, I'm impressed they haven't past out yet!
"Frisk, go upstairs to Alphys's room and go to sleep. She may have not have told you to get up there and sleep in her bed, by you haven't slept in ages! With how much you've done since then... how many fights you've been in! So please don't fight your exhaustion anymore. Go to sleep. I'll protect you." I told Frisk in a caring way.
Frisk immediately looked grateful. They slowly stood back up again and trudged over to the stairs and discovered a bed, that drew back into an easy-to-draw box. Quite convenient that is. They drew out the bed from it's box, plopped down onto it, and past out cold fast than anyone or anything I ever seen! After they pasted out I became a physical being, magically created a knife, and floated around Alphys's room and looked at all of her things, because I'm a creep. I found a weird goop machine, a table full of oddly unopened letters, a bookshelf labeled 'human history' even though it's manga, and lots a different kinds of posters on the walls. Only things that's seemed suspicious was the dusty unopened letters... hmm.
~Some time later~
After quiet a few hours, Frisk woke up and sat up in bed. They looked over at my physical being and smiled and waved a tired, hello. They yawned and rubbed their eyes as they stood up.
"So, Frisk, how did you sleep?" I asked as they started to fold up her bed into a box again.
"Good. I'm really grateful you allowed me to sleep..."
"Wait, allowed you? You're allowed to do whatever you'd like! I'm just here to tag along and protect you... as... a... fri...eenndddd." I've hated saying the word 'friend' for nearly one hundred years.
Frisk laughed and said, "I'm glad you consider me a friend. And well, I guess I didn't want to slow the adventure we were on down. Because I always thought you wanted to go back to your... well... grave... sooner than later." Frisk looked at the floor with that last part. They sat down next to Alphys's bed.
I sighed and floated over to were they sat and later in the air beside them. "Frisk, when I died I went insane from loneliness and was trapped in the darkness with only my magical knives and the guilt of killing my brother. Being with you is the best thing that's happened to me in so long! But I'm just a ghost, I don't need anything essential, but you still have a life to live. So obviously if you need to take care of care just tell me." I was going to be done with that conversation, but instead I threw a sarcastic threat in, "And that's a command!"
Frisk laughed at my little threat and started small conversations. We sat there for a good half an hour just talking about random topics. We even gave each other a mini therapy session. I'll admit, Frisk is a much better therapist than me. Most of my solutions to problems consisted on killing things and theirs was actually good advise. Soon enough we noticed how much precious time we were wasting. I slowly dissolved back into the background and became a ghost again. Finally, we went downstairs to go search of the note that Alphys left us.
It didn't take us long to find the note. It was laying on the ground next to her bathroom door. Hey. Thanks for your help back there. You guys... Your support means a lot to me. But... as difficult as it is to say this... you guys alone can't magically make my own problems go away. I want to be a better person. I don't want to be afraid anymore. And for that to happen, I have to be able to face my own mistakes. I'm going to start doing that now. I want to be clear. This isn't anyone else's problem but mine. But if you don't ever hear from me again... if you want to know "the truth." Enter the door to the north of this note. You all at least deserve to know what I did.
Frisk dropped the note on the ground and looked over at the bathroom door. They looked utterly terrified. "Hey Chara... what kinds of things do you think she did? You think she's overthinking a situation again or do you think this is actually something really serious?"
"I think this is serious. I don't know Alphys as well as someone like... mom or dad. But I'm having a gut feeling that her shy personality is cracking a little and she's attempting to open up to us."
Frisk didn't respond verbally, but nodded in agreement as they started to cautiously go towards the door. As they got close it opened up automatically and they walked into a brightly lit elevator.
"What!? This isn't a bathroom!? Well now that solves my questions from earlier, it's obviously important if she has to have a secret room for this... 'truth'." Frisk stated out loud.
They pressed the only button in the elevator and what was to go down. 'A secret layer!? This is gonna be interesting... really interesting.' I thought as the door closed behind us. It was peaceful for a moment, but only for a moment, as the entire elevator stopped and then just dropped as if it had no traction. The fluorescent lights started rapidly blazing red. Little speakers in the corner started blasting danger warnings loudly, "WARNING! WARNING! ELEVATOR LOSING POWER! EM TETHER STABILITY LOST! ALTITUDE DROPPING!" Frisk screamed and held onto the railing with all their might and I wished with all my might to save Frisk. Frisk's screeches where the last thing I heard before everything went white.
