When Karma Hits You

Chapter 5

It's been a long day. A tiring day. Well, it looks like a month for me instead of a day. There are so many things happened to me for only one day. But, the thing is, the important thing is, I am employed. It is luck.

"How's work?" My father asked me.

"How was it? Are you ok? Is your boss too strict?" My mom also asked.

"I'm ok. There's nothing to worry about. I will just go to my room." I said to them.

I heard my mom is shouting at me when I entered my room.

"Hey, let's have dinner after you've change your clothes." She shouted.

"Yes, mom. For awhile." I shouted back.

Ha! I'm still in shock, actually. I really can't believe that I got the job. I was overwhelmed with what happened to me this past few days. I got the job. I have a nice teammates. Then, my manager is Mr. Black Brown pair of eyes. What the-? Am I that too lucky? Haha! But, I swear, this will be the start of my career and I won't do anything to ruin it.

"Wow! Meat and soup. Oh! Leche flan, my favorite. What do we have today and we have this kind of dinner?" I asked then I get a plate and some food.

"It's your first day at work." My mom is so happy.

"Oh! My eyes are getting wet! Just kidding, I was just happy that, finally, you have been employed. And, you can help us now." She smiled at me.

" Your mom is right, Renee'. At least we know that we are expecting something, right?" Dad said.

My father is a disabled person that's why he doesn't work. His right leg has been cut due to an accident when I was still in my college days. He is a tricycle driver before.

"So, you can now buy me a new school supplies?" Sizzy said.

"Of course, sweetie. But not for now, please wait until my payday." I said to her and pinched her rosy cheeks.

I must admit, I almost give up. I thought there will be no chance for me to get hired. Being unemployed for more than five months after I graduated, I almost stop from chasing. I know, I'm not genius. I only have an average IQ. Sometimes, I think it is below average. Then, I have this work. This is the greatest gift I received from God aside from my family.

I stared outside. I can't sleep. Well, seven o'clock in the evening is too early for me. I saw those kids in the street are still playing, at this time. Those teenagers that are dancing in the pathway, two blocks from our house. I think they are practicing their dance for school. I noticed Mrs. Dalton is putting her christmas lights outdoor. It is looks like a house of lights. Well, Mrs. Dalton is rich. I'm thinking, what will be her reaction if she know that I am now employed? Well, never mind. She will just brag her daughter to me, that her daughter is working abroad as an accountant.

Sighed. In this area, along the highway, where you can hear sounds from all kinds of vehicles, somehow, it feel nice. The thing is, you don't need to have your own alarm clock just to be awake on time. Hearing those sounds, I bet you can't stay lying to your bed. Living in this kind of place is, somehow, will let you realize or will let you see the real world. That, reality sucks. Ha! See those beggars, scavengers, they are in that place from the day that I was born. See those break glass of the window in the apartment in front of our house, they are in that place from the day that we moved in here. Funny thing when you discovered by yourself that nothing happens, over the years, nothing has changed. Haha! This is not an insult or a discrimination, I was just telling what I noticed. And what I noticed was, unprogressive. And I want that to change. I hope so. Forget what you think Renee', you are just an ordinary idiot lady living in this planet. Haha! I laughed at myself. I better go to sleep. I still have work for tomorrow. And, I know that it will be a tiring day, twice what I felt today.

"Renee' ! Eat first your breakfast before you go to work, I left it in the table." My mom said while knocking on my bathroom.

"You're dad will come with me today. So, ensure that the lights, gas stove and faucets are all close before you leave. And, don't forget to lock the door. Did you hear me?" she said.

"Yes Mom. I heard it loud and clearly." I said.

"Alright. Bye!" then she left.

"Ok, Bye Mom!" I said.

Hmm.
What should I wear?

I only have two skirts, and I already wore them. Alright, I chose the black slacks and three-fourth plain navy blue blouse this time. And I wear flat shoes. My feet are still hurt and they can't stand to wear those high heels again, then I will ride a bus? Be yourself, Renee'. I brushed my long black straight hair and wear my eyeglasses. This thing is the important thing to me, since I am blind if I don't wear these eyeglasses. But, I really do have 20-20 vision. That's true. I can see things inside and out. Haha! Funny.

I get my backpack then leave.

My shift will start in few minutes, at nine o'clock in the morning and will end at six o'clock in the evening. Still early. Well, it is better than late. I stand in front of the glass door of the company building then it open. As I entered the building, it feel so nice. Funny, the doors here are automatic. I don't know what are those. But, the thing is, you just need to stand in front of the door then it will automatically open. Nice! Magic, Haha! I wear my ID then let the guard check my things.

"Good Morning!" I said to the guard and smiled.

"Good Morning, Ma'am!" they replied.

I'm in a good mood today.
I'm too early.

But I was surprise when I saw them here in the office, at this time. They are already here.

I smiled then greeted them. "Hi! Good Morning! You're all too early."

Gail turned to me "Good Morning Renee'! Yes. We need it. Why are you so early? Your shift is nine to six, right?"

"Yes. I woke up early this morning, that's why I am now here. And I don't want to be late." I said.

" Huddle, Guys, in the huddle room!" Lindie said it out loud.

We all went in the huddle room near our workstation. They started in raising their concerns and any help needed for the team. Lindie started to collate all those data then submit it to Sir Rhance. Well, I noticed that he is not here. Where is he?

" Anyway, Sir Rhance is not here. He's on the meeting today." Lindie said. "So, if you do have concerns, urgent concerns, you can say it to me or send it to him via email."

"Alright." We all said.

"Then, we may go back to work. Thanks, Guys!" She said.

"This is what we called life!" Mac said after eating a slice of pizza. "Haha!"

It's our team lunch.

"Yeah! I can eat all these pizza alone! Haha!" Gail said.

"Nah! That's why you're having a hard time in losing your weight." Lindie said to Gail while laughing then get a slice of pizza.

"Don't be shy, Renee'! This is an 'eat-all-you-can pizza lunch!" Mac said.

"Yeah. Thanks!" I just said.

This is the team. They are really so nice. I think I will stay here longer if I'm with them. I hope so. They don't care if they look like an idiot while eating. So many stories. Funny stories. Sad stories. For za one hour, you already knew each other. The thing is, they making big things an easy thing. It's like, 'don't make it too hard, we're at your back'. And at this moment, I already love this team. In a corporate world, it is not easy to find a perfect team that suits for you. Well, of course, it is not them who will adjust for you. It is you who need to adjust for them. If that is, you want to succeed working in a corporate world. Soonest, you will see, and you will find out. That's what my professor advised to us when I was still in college. And, I'm started in believing him.
