BANG BANG
Screams erupted in the barn, making goosebumps scatter in my skin. My arms were over my head, protecting it. My eyes were shut tightly as my heart raced.
"Emerson! Are you ok?" I heard a deep voice by my ear. I opened my eyes a little to see Avery leaned down beside me. Once I uncovered my face he examined me, making sure I wasn't hurt.
"I'm fine." I said as I stood up straight. I looked around, checking if everybody was ok. My mind was swarming with questions.
"Oh my god Emerson!" My moms shrikes as she ran over to me and grabbed my face in her hands. "Are you ok? Are you hurt?" Mom tilted my head to the sides as her eyes examined me closely. Daren copied her actions.
"Guys, I'm fine." I faked a small smile. No, I wasn't fine. But I didn't want my mom or Daren to worry.
"Emma!" I was pretty much tackled to the ground as aspen and Greyson ran up to me. I saw they both had dirt covering their faces and fear swam in their eyes.
"I'm fine, are you guys ok?" I ask. They nodded their head rapidly before embracing me in a hug. I felt safe in their arms.
"I hate to break up the heartwarming moment, but I would like to be noticed to," his voice sent shivers down my back. I pulled away and looked in front of me, only for my eyes to settle on him. But of course he wasn't alone.
"Christopher?" My moms voice was shaky and cautious.
"Hello sweetheart." He shot mom and smile, a smile that made fear shoot through me.
"W-what....h-how are you here?" Mom narrowed her eyes at him.
"Did you think you could hide from me forever? You had to know it was only a matter of time before I found out your little hiding spot," dad gave mom a wicked smile. His gaze then shifted from mom to Daren, who had his arms wrapped around mom tightly. "And who might you be?" Dad asked with hatred lacing his voice. It was quiet, no one dared to answer his question.
"I think it's time for you to go," Avery spoke from behind me. I could feel how tense he was, and his grip on my waist tightened even more.
"But I just got here," dad fake pouted. "Oh and I'm sorry Emerson for being late to your baby shower, but In my defense I wasn't invited." Once his eyes met mine my heart went into overdrive. They held so much anger and evil in them.
"You weren't invited for a reason. You aren't welcome here, your are no longer apart of mine or your daughters life," mom snapped. I could see her beautiful blue eyes get watery.
"Be careful who your talking to Bailey, I wouldn't want to make your punishment worse then what it's already going to be," dad shot back and he walked up to mom, but Daren was quick to push mom behind him. Daren was now standing, face to face, with dad. New boyfriend meets ex husband.
"I won't let you hurt her," Daren spoke bravely, although you could obviously see the fear hidden in him.
"Can someone please tell me who this guy is? He must me pretty dumb to tell me what to do and to touch my wife the way he was," dad growled. His eyes turning black. What happened next make gasp erupt in the room.
It was like realization finally hit dad as he quickly shot his hand up and wrapped it around darens throat.
"Oh Bailey, please tell me what I'm thinking is wrong," dad spoke lowly. His grip around darens throat wasn't that tight because Daren could till breath. Everything was silent. "TELL ME THAT IM WRONG!" Dad yelled. I'm being serious when I say the whole barn shook. Dads grip on darens throat had now tightened, and he was slowly lifting him in the air.
"STOP! Let him go!" Mom sobbed as she tried to pull dads hand off of darens throat. But dad didn't budge. Instead he just looked at Daren, who was chocking with tears streaming down his face. My moms sobs and yells shattered my heart. I could see her eyes getting dull and dark with sadness.
"First, I find out our daughter is pregnant. And then I find out that my wife is dating someone." Dad looks at Daren with so much hatred, but still a small wicked smile formed on his face. "You have no idea the demon you just awoke," his words sent shivers down my spine. He threw Daren on the ground and pulled out a gun, pointing it at Daren. Without thinking I broke free from Avery grip and ran over to my father and shoved him out of the way.
"No! I won't let you hurt the man that's made mom the happiest she's ever been. I won't let you hurt the man she loves, and cares about. I won't let you hurt the man that's been there for me more than you ever have, and I certainly won't let you kill him. He's my dad, and I love him more than anything and I will not let you hurt him!" By now my face was stained with tears. Every single word that spilled out of my mouth was from my heart, and it definitely made my father mad.
"I'm your dad," He gritted.
"No, your my father. Anyone can be a father, but it takes someone special like Daren to be a dad." I stood strong. Dad looked down at Daren, then back at me.
I saw my life flash before my eyes when my father stomped his way over to me. I wanted to run, but my legs wouldn't let me. Plus I'm pregnant, so that would weigh me down. He grabbed mine and moms arm painfully tight and looked at us.
"You both are coming home with me. And this time, you will not escape." He snapped. "Get that boy out of my sight, and bring him to the house to the basement." Two guys stepped out of the crowd and grabbed Daren by the arms, leading him out of the barn. Mom watched him closely, telling him with her eyes how sorry she was.
Me on the other hand? I was to scared to look at anybody, even Avery. Because I knew no one could save me from what was about to happen.
