By the time Eddie managed to leave the house, it was already early in the morning. It was cold and frosty outside, and every time he exhaled, he was sending patterns of frosty air before him like cigar smoke. He stopped to zip up his coat, and threw open the boot of his car. He slung his bag into the back and as he closed it, the air cut his nose and made his lungs blaze like a Christmas tree inside.

He got into the car, slammed the door shut and switched the engine on.
As if Eddie was out of breath, he mumbled in a whisper-like tone.

"Shit"

From Chicago, he was headed to Seattle to begin a new life. The band agreed to move there too, maybe a few months after he had done so.

He wanted a new life, a new home, and a new lover.

Hours had passed, and he was getting more tired by the minute.
He saw a motel.
"No Eddie, keep driving. You're almost there" he told himself. He didn't like being alone, he just wanted to drive without any hesitation.

As he got to a traffic light, his eyes wandered. He hadn't been in his car for so long as Brooke practically stopped him from going out. There was dust on the backseats; you couldn't see it as it was too dark. He turned on the Radio and the music played.

"I haven't heard this one in a while" he told himself as he was listening to Californication. It was a song him and Brooke used to listen to, it was 'their song'. Memories flooded and before Eddie could touch the radio to switch the song, the lights had gone green again.

The song ended, and the voices on the station started talking.
"Hello, it's 2:47am here in Seattle, and the weather today could be signs of..."
The rest was a mumble to Eddie, as he was so concentrated on the driving and not falling asleep.

Then, it hit him.

"2.47am in Seattle. In Seattle, in Seattle!" Eddie's voice gradually got louder as he realised he had reached his destination.

He was too tired to go any further, so he pulled up by a corner of a road and got out.
It was drizzling outside, and Eddie rolled his eyes.

"Not that different from back home then, huh" he whispered to himself as he lifted open the back of his car to acquire his bag. He took a deep breath, and decided to sit by the sidewalk. He looked up, and the stars reflected off the bonnet of his vehicle, contrasting with the rain.

Eddie's eyes couldn't hold each other open much longer, and as much as he was fighting to keep them open, his head tipped to the side as he quietly fell asleep.
