=•Colby's pov•=

It was about 3 am and you could tell the energy level in the room had died down. We were all now sitting in a circle on our sleeping bags.

"So Colby... You and Jessie eh?" Elton smirks as I roll my eyes. "We're just friends" I tell them as Corey lets out a huffing noise. "yeah 'Just friends'" He makes air quotes with his fingers. "That's all we are!" I exclaim, tossing my hands in the air. 
"I don't see you guys hitting on anyone" I said back. "I have a girlfriend" Corey points out as my eyes go wide. "Really? I did not know that" I look away for a moment.

"yeah, he and Devyn are in loooovve" Elton makes a kissy face at Corey as he looks away.  But then looks back just as quickly. "Speak for yourself, you and Amanda" Corey says as Elton smirks. "How come I'm only hearing of these girls now?"

The guys have fallen asleep. 

But I found this one mythology book that really got my attention... 

It was telling the tail on how mers... whenever there's a full moon they get affected, one way or another. Whether it's when they look at the full moon and become moonstruck or if they touch water and shift and can't turn back until the moon sets, or it can just make the mer's powers go haywire.

I look down at my hands and wonder what powers I have, or if I have any at all... 

Then a thought came to mind and I clicked my phone open, put my password in then opened the calendar app. 

Shit...

The full moon is tomorrow.

I sigh as I turn my phone off and put it back into my pocket.

From where I was standing I could see out the window. I took a step closer towards the dark starry night sky.
I looked out into the sky that was filled with scattered stars. Then right there in the middle of it. The almost full moon. 
One more night and it'd become the all powerful...

I was snapped out of my thoughts when a small bang came from behind me. 
I spun around and saw Sam, standing beside a book that had fallen to the floor beside him. 
"H-Hey Colby" He says quietly as he puts the book back on the shelve then came and stood beside me. "Couldn't sleep?" I lightly giggle at his awkwardness. 

"Yeah... You too?" He asks me as I nod my head. 

"Yep" Sam sighed as he took a step towards me. "Out of all the powers, we learned about which one would you like most?" He asks me as I let out a little laugh. "Maybe... Air? I don't know, I think I'd be cool. Maybe I could use it like the force?" I tell Sam. "Yeah, that'd be cool" Sam nods. 

After a moment of silence, I turned back to Sam.

"Sam... You don't have to tell me the whole reason, but why are you scared of the water?" I ask him as his eyes go wide, not thinking that would be the question I'd ask.

"huh... I knew you'd ask me that one day" He smiled at the ground. "It's a long story... I got into a car crash, I ended up in the water" Sam started to stutter as if tears were welling in his eyes. "Hey..." I put my hands on his shoulders as he looks up at me. "It's fine, tell me when you're ready," I told him as he looked up at me. 

His arms went from his side to up and around my body. "T-Thanks...." He whispered as He put his head on my shoulder. I hugged him back, letting the heat from my body warm his, which had become a little colder in the past minutes.

We made it back to the group where they still slept, exactly like we left them. 

I laid back down into bed, pulling the blanket over my body then glancing up at Sam who was doing the same. "Night Sam" I say to him as he rolls over to face me. "Goodnight Colby" He whispers as his eyes close. 

=•The Next Morning•=

Once we got up we decided to go to McDonald for breakfast. 

We all sat down with our trays in the booth we had Corey stay at for us. "Okay so... after everything that happened last night, what did we learn?" Corey asks as we get comfortable. 

"Well, I don't know if ya'll saw this but there was this one book that explained how the full moon effects..... werewolves. ya?" I ask them, wondering if they realized I said werewolf instead of a merman.
"Well... we know that after their first full moon they have a chance of obtaining powers" Elton remembers from the books we read. 

"Also how they can't look at the moon, in any way, shape or form" Elton and Corey looked at me with confusion and a little shock. "Really?" Elton asks as I nod my head. "And if they shift into their wolf form they won't be able to shift back until the moon is completely gone," I say, sounding smart. 
"Yes their wolf form," Corey says with a wink. 
I smirk and glance away before continuing to eat my food. 

"But the full moon is tonight" Sam cuts the silence and we all stare at him blankly. "Well... Werewolves can always just stay inside, locked up in their room until morning" I shrug. "No, werewolves should not have to do this on their own. They should have friends, to help him and make sure nothing, nothing happens" Corey gestures to the three of them. 
"Okay... you guys can sleep over... it's just my parents will be there and my brother...." Before I could finish Sam cut in. "We can do it at my house, it's just me and my sister and she'll be happy to know I actually have friends" He says quickly. 
"Sure.... yeah, that'll work" I say as a smile tugs at the edges of my lips. 

"Everyone good with that?" I ask the group. "yep I'm all free" Elton leans back in the booth comfortably. "Yeah same here" Corey agrees as he smiles. 

"Okay boys, tonight my house. Come before the moon rises" Just as Sam confirmed our plans I felt a small vibration come from my back pocket. 
I casually moved my hand back, down and into my pocket and pulled out my phone. I held it out so I could see it but no one else would notice. 

Jessie: Hey Colby. Just wondering if you were free this weekend to study? 

I made sure the guys weren't watching before I responded with a quick. 

Colby: Sure! Anytime.

I slid my phone back into my pocket, just in time cause everyone had finished eating and were beginning to pack up. 

"Sam, text us the details, yeah?" Elton says as we slide out of the booth. Sam nods before we head towards the exit door.
