Sam sat on the front patio of his house. There was a chill in the air that caused the blonde to put on the biggest sweater he's got. No matter how much Alex insisted that he wear a jacket, Sam always preferred hoodies, sweaters.

Sam checked his phone for the fourth time now, anxiously waiting for some kind of update from Colby. The brunette said he'd be there in 10 minutes, that was eight minutes ago.

The early night air was filled with the sound of Sam anxiously tapping his foot against the bottom stair of his patio. "What am I going to tell him..." His words were quiet.

The loud text tone from his phone caused him to jump, the sudden sound startling him.

Colby: Close by

Sam let out a sigh of relief as he pocketed his phone once again.

About three minutes later the familiar sound of a skateboard skating up the road sent Sam's heart rate up. The blonde stood up from where he was sitting on the patio, taking a step down to be on the ground level. He reached out and leaned against the wall beside him for support.

He watched as Colby appeared at the end of his street, casually boarding down the road in the light of the street lamps. He turned into Sam's driveway, he kicked his board up and grab it with his hand. "Hello Samuel" Colby tried to act serious but he cracked up before he could even each the blonde. "I don't know what the was... heh, anyway, what's up? Is everything okay?" His mind started to race, he hadn't even begun to think about what if there was an emergency. Colby just assumed Sam wanted to talk.

"What? No, everything is okay! Well -uh, kinda... We need to talk" Sam knew those words were usually used for a couple on the verge of a breakup, but those were the only words that surfaced in his head.

"Oh... Okay. Well... What's going on?" Sam sat down on the first step, Colby quickly sat beside him. They sat with space in between them, but if Sam moved his knee just far enough it would hit Colby's knee.

Now isn't the time...

Sam thought to himself before he realized Colby was waiting for him to start talking.

"So... I've been wanting to tell you this for a long while now" He started without meeting Colby's eyes. "Colby, ever since the day you saved me back at the beach- I, um... I've liked you." Sam finally met Colby's eyes, they stayed emotionless until they changed to match the smile over his lips.

"Yeah man. I like you too" Colby smiles happily before Sam shakes his head.
"No, Colby... I like you, like you" His voice was nervous.

In response, Colby just blinked, letting the news settle over him. "Oh..." Now it was the brunette who was staring off into the distance.

"I-I just thought you should know" Sam turned to look the merman.

Colby let out a small nervous laugh, shaking his head. "Sam, that's cool and all... But you know I'm dating Jessie right?" His voice quickly became serious. He stood up and off the step, crossing his arms over his chest.

"Colby, please, I just wanted to tell you. It's been eating away at me since the day we met" Sam's voice became shaky, he slowly stood up beside Colby.

"What's the difference? Now it's going to be eating away at me!" Colby tossed his hands down by his side.

There was a sudden buzz that came from Colby's pocket, he immediately checked it. "I've gotta go..." Were the last things he said before grabbing his board and leaving Sam alone with his thoughts.
