=~•Colby's POV•~=
"So where exactly were you last night?" Elton asks me as we take a seat at our usual lunch table.
"Oh... Um, I was studying" I tell them, it wasn't a complete lie.
"Oh come on Colby, if you're gonna lie to us you gotta do better then that" Corey tilts his head at me, almost as if he pitied me for my lack of lying abilities. Sam didn't add anything, he just glanced over at me and kept quiet.
"Fiiinnne, jeez. I was out with Jessie" I confess as Elton sighs and Corey perks up.
"I knew it! Pay up Elton" Corey smiles as he holds out his hand which Elton places a dollar in.
"Wait- You guys are betting on my love life?" I ask in shock as I put down my sandwich.
Corey was about to say something, probably defending them before Elton cut in "We just found it odd that you were boarding home at such a late hour".
"Guys just leave him alone" Sam insists as I put my hand on his shoulder.
"Yeah guys, why can't you be more like Sam?" I ask as I feel him stiffen under my touch, I slowly move my hand off his shoulder.

=~•Elton's POV•~=
I was at the library with Gran, she had asked me to help her move some things around in exchange for some of her older books to 'study'. Which wasn't a total lie, I just wasn't studying for school, but in fact I was studying one of my best friends.
"A little more to the left Elty" Gran instructed as she stood farther behind me to get a better look as she made sure the shelf was straight. So I did what I was told, I moved it a little and she clapped her hands together. "It's perfect! Thank you, sweety" She comes and kisses my cheek "Feel free to take a loot around, remember 3 book max" She reminded me with a wink. I was also limited to the older books but that wasn't a problem, most of these books were older after all.
Gran let me wander off after that, so I found my usual desk alongside 3 of my new books, I began flipping through them, looking for new information.
Most of it was stuff we already knew, any type of water causes a Mer to turn, the full moon is a big baddy and their hair changes with the growth of their powers.
But something new emerged from the second book...
Each mer is strongly connected to the pool they were created in, their moon pool. But a moon pool can only sustain one mer at a time, but if another mer is created using the same moon pool, the original mer will lose their powers.
The moon pools colours correspond with the mer's tail colour, as does their hair. The colour of the moon pool will change with the new mers over time.
Elton took a moment to think about this new information he had just acquired.
What colour is the moon pool? I'm pretty sure it just looks like good ol' rocks and stuff. I feel like we would've noticed if there were big blue glowing rocks...
But we have only been there during the day.
Elton stocked his beard as he checked the time.
