Chapter 16 

Jar of hearts

(Before speeding to Mason and Jaysi.  At the mall.)

I had no idea where that smell was coming from. It hit me suddenly. I looked around to see if Jaysi was around. She was still outside with Lock. The smell was strong like blood enriched to purposely tease my craving. It became stronger by the second. I caught view of J standing with Mason. I soon realized it was her. She was giving off the scent I didn't catch earlier. Why did it take me this long to catch it? I walked over to both of them. It only became harder to handle.  I tried to not pass out from the scent. It was like vervain exploding on my face. Although it still made me crave. It was hard not to take a bite from J. Her presence was hard to be around.  I pulled my hand away from her. Her touch was only going to make it worse. Lock had J stay away near Jeremy. I had lost sight of Stefan who no doubt was having a difficult time just as I am. I ended up outside by Mason's truck. Lock called out for Stefan. Eventually he should hear his call.

"What did you get? Is it her?" Lock panicked.

"What else would it be? Why now? What happened?" I asked having my own wild theory.

I wasn't going to mention it. Especially if I'm wrong.

"I was outside with her. Did you catch it then?" Lock asked glancing around.

"I'm sure I did. I didn't think it was her since she was outside."

"I felt her heart racing. I knew she was growing hotter. I had an idea what was causing San to change." Lock said.

"Well?" I asked looking up at him while I crouched over.

"Heat. Every time it as happened it's been when she feels something." Lock paused.

"I get it ok. When she gets in heat!" I scoffed shaking my head. "Isn't that just great." I said sarcastically.

"I'm just telling you what I think. I'm not throwing it out to brag. I want this to go away." He said.

Stefan and Elena came running over to us.

"Where is she?" Elena asked.

"Inside." Lock replied.

"Are you ok?" Elena asked.

I looked up at her.

"You picked up her scent? Mason you have to get this fixed." Stefan told him.

"I'm trying. That's why we're here."

"I think we need to get back inside. Jeremy had his intermission and Jaysi is inside by herself." Elena told us.

"I can't. I need some time." I told them.

"You're not going to leave are you?" Mason asked.

"I just need a minute." I said.

"I think you should go in. You're only going to make her worry. You're going to get her blood going." Stefan mentioned.

After Jeremy's show Stefan helped put his equipment in the bands truck. I didn't help much. I would have but Jaysi was around. I stayed away as much as I could without making it obvious.  I had a lot on my mind. Being with her under compulsion was wrong. Being with her at all was wrong. I imagined being with her sexually and I couldn't find any way of forgetting the facts. J had already given herself willingly to a Lockwood.  Regardless she would find out what we all are. The next full moon was right around the corner. Tuesday was the last day to finish all of this curse nonsense. Today was Saturday. Jeremy deciding to go and drive with Elena. I drove alone and of course the happy couple Mason and J drove together in his truck. We were greeted by Bonnie and her fiance Malcolm. He was a tall thin black man. We all have not changed especially Stefan and I. Bonnie is still the same Bonnie. Tougher than the old days but still innocent. Point is we all still have the same nature of behavior. Her fiance Malcolm seems to not joke around or take things lightly. Serious all the time.
