"we're just ordinary people
we don't know which way to go
cause we're ordinary people
maybe we should take it slow"

Coasting down PCH, 94.7 played quietly in the background. Naila surprised Chris with a small vacation to California while also being able to visit her family right before Christmas.

Being in her second home was something she had been looking forward to since she left around this time last year. Although she never lived in California for a lengthy period of time, all of those she held near and dear to her heart did and she took whatever chance she had to visit them. They were scattered all over the state, from Sacramento and Fresno down to LA and even all the way in San Diego. The familiar scent of the ocean's water and overcast skies brought back memories from both Seattle and California, but there was no place like Cali. The people, the atmosphere, and everything else about the state was just different. People weren't in such a rush to get places, and everything had a relaxed and chill vibe to it. She loved being here, and made it a priority of her's to move here when given the chance.

Rolling down the window to let her hand follow the direction of the wind, Kaison laughed at her cuteness. The cool December air was refreshing as they drove down the open freeway.

"How do you feel being home, baby?"

"I feel great! I missed it a lot, you know. All the ones I love are here. I was thinking after we eat in Malibu, we can head back home to Venice and we can walk the boardwalk when it gets dark. Maybe go to the pier and ride the ferris wheel or something. It's real beautiful at night to see and hear the waves when you're up that high. Sound like a deal?"

"Definitely. I've always heard a lot about Venice and Santa Monica Pier and I always wanted to go, but I haven't been in California for so long and even when I was, I was way too busy to have any fun. I'm gonna win you a teddy bear too. Sound fun?"

"Yes! Oh god I'm so excited to be back. Haven't been back in Venice in so long but I'm sort of nervous about going. Growing up, it was more of a rough and tumble town by the water but it had so much personality. The people made it such a beautiful place to call home. Recently though I've been hearing about all the gentrification going on and that makes me sad. They're buying out the houses occupied by families for generations and selling them for millions! Can you believe that? It makes me so angry and I hate I can't do anything about it."

"Gentrification is going on everywhere in the US, Nai and it's scary. All these places of such culture and substance are getting super whitewashed and it's scary for those people of color who have lived there for so long."

"Awwwwww."

"What?"

"I think it's cute how educated you are on topics like this. You're too adorable." Naila gushed as she stuck a manicured finger into one of his dimples. After the revelation of his secret celebrity life, they agreed to try and be more open with one another. Not saying that everything would be out in the air all the time, especially since they weren't technically in possession of one another yet, but when an issue or topic arose they agreed to be honest and truthful about it. Ever since, their relationship began to grow at a rapid pace and they thoroughly trusted one another. Being in one another's presence was something they both constantly craved, but luckily neither of them had to worry about that not being a possibility until it was time for the both of them to get back to work again.
