was absolutely eating away at Gail as she stared at her reflection in the mirror. Uncertainty was swirling around in her mind, leaving her confused as to what move she should make next. Today was her only child's baby shower, a moment that should include her in all aspects but the reality was the polar opposite. She had to hear through the grapevine that her daughter was even pregnant or engaged, and was obviously very happy about both of those things. As a mother Gail had made major mistakes in her life, including turning a blind eye to the molestation her daughter endured at the hands of her husband and stepsons.

To this very day she regrets marrying Joseph, and she should've known as soon as they repeated those vows to one another that things would never be the same. The once kind and gentle man that he was when they were dating seemed to disappear almost immediately when the two wed and Gail was with child. Marrying a man 15 years her senior and carrying his seed while only being 19 at the time brought on a sense of commitment that she now knows that she wasn't prepared for. With her now being his wife, Joseph felt a sense of authority over Gail, enforcing that authority by any means necessary. Being an Army man it was obviously no different once his daughter was born, but to go as far as to let his own sons take advantage of a helpless child out of spite was something Gail would never expect of her husband.

Now years in the future, she was here debating with herself on whether or not to basically crash her daughter's baby shower. That wasn't really her intention, when in all reality she just wanted to be apart of the festivities. She hadn't seen her child since last December and even then she could tell that Naila was completely taken by her man. Even though that night on the boat turned to complete shit, she was so happy to have even seen her daughter in the first place. Seeing her being truly happy for one of the first times in her life was an experience, and that simple fact alone made her feel like complete crap.

As her iPhone 7 rested on a stack of books that she brought to her former home city to keep her entertained, she was so tempted to dial her daughter's number just to catch up. The anxiety that came with doing so is the only reason that she wouldn't pick up the phone and call her. She was terrified of the rejection and spite that her daughter would probably have for her after all of these years. Even though things seemed fine since the last time they've seen each other, there's no telling how Naila feels considering it's been over a year since they've spoken. The pain was eating away at Gail and to make things even worse, she wasn't sure how much time she had left on this earth.
