Applying her last bit of lip gloss, Naila tried to calm her shaky hands as she straightened out the fabric of her dress. She could feel a presence from behind her, and as soon as she turned around she was met by the gaze of Kaison's sweet, brown eyes.
"You look beautiful, baby," he said, opening his arms to her as she walked toward him. Having their first year anniversary just pass, Naila felt this warmth in her that never seemed to go away when she was around him.
"Yeah Mommy! Cute!" Naila heard little Isa say, with her wobbly-walking into the bathroom of the hotel suite they were staying in while in Atlanta. Her messy curls were sprawled over her head considering she had just woken up, and as Naila bent down to pick up her now very heavy baby girl, all she could see was her daddy when she looked at the little angel in her arms. Delivering Isa was probably the biggest task Naila had ever taken on in her life even though her baby was teeny-tiny when she was born. The labor was a quick one, with the doctors wanting to get the baby out as soon as possible so the risks that came along with the pregnancy wouldn't take effect. With Isa's condition, the pregnancy was considerably high risk, as was the surgery that was to follow once she was born.
5 days after little Isa was born, the doctors decided she was ready to go into surgery to clear the blockage in her heart. The pure anxiety and fear that Naila felt giving her little baby to the doctors was greater than she had ever felt before. In her baby's very first days, she was able to bond with her so much when she wasn't in her incubator. She came out from time to time but couldn't be outside for too long, but when she was her mother just wanted to hold her forever. She had that fresh baby smell, a smell that couldn't be described unless you've experienced before. Motherhood had already began to prove that it would be a difficult task, and the stress that came with that was unimaginable. Even though she knew there was nothing she did to have made her daughter have this condition, she still felt immense guilt about her daughter having to go under the knife at such a young age. She knew there was nothing else that could be done, but that didn't change how she felt.
When the kind-faced doctor peeked her head into Naila's hospital room alerting her that the surgery had gone off without a hitch, it felt like a stack of bricks had been lifted off of Naila's chest. She had been floating between sleep and wake since her baby was off into surgery, and now she was wide awake hearing the delightful news. She had been so nervous, so immensely terrified at the possible outcomes of this surgery that could put her tiny baby's life at risk, but everything had gone just perfect. Her baby was perfect now, and Naila was sure of it.
