Hey y'all!
So I was literally shook when Hope Solo announced that she would be running for US Soccer President. I mean, she's fully capable and stuff, I guess? Here are my pros and cons:
Pro:
She's right, Hope does know what US Soccer needs, from here\ being an active part of one of the teams. She wants to help clear the wage gap and that's okay, but is that the only reason she wants the job?
Con:
Yes, it's true Hope is very active in the fight for equal play, equal pay. Even after she got suspended she was still fighting for it. Now, if she gets the job and clears the wage gap, now what? Is she only wanting the job for that reason?
Pro:
Hope knows many people in the US Soccer community, including coaches, training staff and many players. Now, many "newcomers" to US Soccer may not be that comfortable straight up talking back to someone. But Hope, that's her job.
Con:
Now we know Hope has a past of saying the wrong things in the wrong moments. Now, will she say the wrong thing at a very crucial time? By her saying the wrong thing will she get us kicked out of the Olympics or the World Cup? Sometimes a quick temper isn't what we need.
Pro:
It would be amazing if she got the presidency. I believe she would be the first women president of US Soccer (don't quote me). She would make history, and it would inspire many people.
Con:
Okay, this is probably the biggest problem with Hope being president. First, she has many friends on the women's team. Now, she wants to help the women's team a lot, but does she want the same for the men's team? Would we have a biased president? Would Hope even care to think about the men's team? That may be my greatest worry.
