Dan
I wake up with pain in my back. This mattress is extremely uncomfortable, and the squeaky bed that wakes you up every ten minutes isn't the best either. I'll just have to deal with it, though. The only priority I have at the moment is making sure Mom gets better.
I get up as quickly as possible and look at the time on my phone. 8 AM. I throw on a hoodie and walk downstairs quietly. That's what I'm trying, I mean. The stairs are so old that every step I take sounds like it's a dinosaur.
Just when I want to put on my coat to go outside, I hear a loud voice.
"DANIEL HOWELL."
"..Yes?"
I look up to see aunt Carol standing on top of the stairs. She is wearing a pink bathrobe and there's a sleeping mask on her chin. Her cat slippers are the ugliest things I've ever seen.
"How DARE you wake me up at THIS TIME." She says, her voice loud and angry. I flinch.
"I'm so sorry, aunt Carol. I wanted to visit my mother in hospital."
"Carol?!" she makes a disgusted face. "It's Carolina for you." Since when is she called Carolina? Oh well, I'll just go with it.
"I'm sincerely sorry, aunt Carolina."
"Okay. I'll make an exception this time. But if it EVER happens again, you'll be facing the consequences."
I nod while putting on my coat. "I apologize."
She gives me an angry look before walking back to her room. I quickly get out of the door. I can't make her mad again. She'll kill me.
The hospital is a 20 minute walk. I haven't had any food, so walking is pretty tiring. I pause every five minutes to take a breath.
When I finally arrive at the hospital, I go up to Mom's room as fast as possible.
A/N
i've decided not to write about hospital scenes etcetera in detail as i have not had any experience with cancer treatment in hospitals (fortunately). i think it also varies per country and everything would be kind of confusing so you can imagine yourself. this doesn't mean i won't write about dan being in the hospital at all, but i just won't go into much detail. if you still see anything that's wrong in this story, please feel free to correct me. english is not my first language so there might be some mistakes here and there!
