"What!? Why do I have to be the first grandfather! What did I do to deserve this!" My father jokingly yells at me from across the table after I say it. Papa leans against my father while dying of laughter.

I was happy to offer this small bit of good news to my family so we weren't all focused on the fact we were missing a few people from the familiar conversations and their voices were deeply missed.
"You're complaining about being a grandfather?! What about me!" my grandfather yells at my father and my grandmother burst out laughing.
"Alright, we get it, we're all old. Now shut the fuck up and congratulate your poor sons," Alejandro pulls my father back as my entire family surrounds us in smiles and laughter.
"AJ, do you have any children in hiding in the attic so good old Johnny can be first?" Pierce points at my eldest cousin, whose wife, Isabella, had passed away five years ago and he hadn't found or dated anyone since.
"Hey, Face the facts and leave my children out of this," Jonathan says, defensively pointing his fork.
"Hmm, nothing from me but uh *cough cough*Finley over here, *cough* might be another story," AJ jokes. Embarrassed, Finley violently wraps an arm around his older brother's neck.
"Fuck the line of succession and listen here Ashley Junior. If you mention my exploits one more goddamn time, I'm going to kick your ass from here to the Uk, so you can shut the fuck up and shove your comments up..." my uncle Ashley comes back from the outside and stands behind the two of them with his arms crossed. Finley sees him and quickly releases his chokehold before getting smacked.
"I don't know why you're complaining, I would love to be a grandfather," Soren laughs.
"Shut the fuck up Soren, you're like 5 years older than AJ," Jonathan yells down the table at his youngest brother.
"HEY HEY, ALRIGHT ALRIGHT!"
My grandfather yells, as he always does when Soren's age comes to the table. My grandmother was laughing so hard she had her head down on the table and you could just hear her snickering.
I look across the table while everyone breaks out their own separate arguments.

Mari pushes around his salad with his fork and Jamie gently whispers something in his ear. He tries to perk up a little bit and nods but I could tell Jamie could see straight through this charade he was unsuccessfully attempting to pull off.
We all knew Joseph's death was coming.
And although it was heartbreaking, it was better this way now that he was no longer in pain.
They said he died of natural causes but we all knew it was from being unable to live without Peter.
