"Baby please no promises, 'cause we won't keep our promises..."
-Shawn Mendes, "No Promises"
~~~I go to my locker and take out my morning books for the day, and head toward first period when Shawn grabs my shoulder from behind and pulls me into the janitor closet.
"What happened to you? And don't you dare lie to me" Shawn said in a worried tone. I gulped and looked deeply into his eyes.
People always have a flaw when they lie. They don't meet your eyes, they move from side to side, or just stutter when they talk. I am a professional and this is nothing new to my regular life.
"What happened is that I slipped on the shower and fell" I said. He sighs.
"Now if you'll excuse me, I am late for class" I said and turned the door knob but Shawn placed his hands on mine. I flinch in pain.
"Luna, tell me the truth. Did she beat you up?"
I look at him, and his face explains it all. This is what I didn't want, for him to be emotionally attached to me because this will bring him and me so much problems.
"Shawn-"
"Luna! I know everything about this, why won't you just tell me?" He said, angrier than before.
"I can't tell you because nothing happened! Not every second of life revolves around my bully, Shawn. So just for one time, trust me!" I said, in a matching tone as his.
That's when I noticed I had tears accumulated in my eyes.
"I didn't mean it like that-" Shawn sighed.
"I know" and I rapidly opened the door and ran toward the classroom.
On the way, I passed my fingers along my cheeks, clearing all the marks of my tears. I put on my fake, happy smile to hide my sorrows.
That's also what I do best.
You may think I am heartless but I needed to learn to do that to survive. I basically fake cried to make the story believable.
I feel awful by doing it because I know he's just trying to help but if I didn't, he would know I was lying and I would have to tell him the truth and that can ruin his life. I am doing all of this to protect Shawn from her, I don't want her to beat him up and leave him in the border of death. He is too damn special to me.
I finally enter the classroom and seat in my desk chair. The plan for today is to avoid Shawn, even if it is the hardest thing I do.
"Luna, what happened?" Charlotte whispered from her seat that is to my right.
"I fell in the shower, very clumsy" I said and chuckled a little. She chuckled.
"Be careful or the gossips are gonna think you got in a fight" she said and turned her eyes to the teacher that was rambling about some math equation.
Little did she know.
~~~
I close the door of my car and put the hood on top of my head. I turn on the car and drive home without looking back.
