Chapter Eighteen

The next early dawn Celina came awake to the sharp pain in her abdomen, she learned from both Ann and Maria that she would feel this pain for at least six to seven days before finally stopping. Never in her life had she known that woman would go through such a thing each month when they reached maturity.

As Celina got her bearings around the room she heard the sound of someone softly singing, but the lyrics sounded anything but nice.

“…raised as a child one shorn of fate, in a fit of rage he knows a violent destiny will await, only life by sword shall reign, left to drown in blood, he never to death be slain…”

Rolling in her bed Celina slowly got up and pulled back the drapes of her bed to let the early morning sunlight blanket her and her bed as a slight chill from the early morning coat her with a slight shudder. When her eyes adjusted to the light she saw her brother slightly sitting on the large window ledge that looked out to the vast fields and forests of the lands. Xavier sat along her window looking out as the wind slightly lifted his blond hair; his gaze seemed wistful, as if he was off in some far place within his own mind.

“Brother?”

Xavier jerked slightly from the sound of his sister’s voice, turning he saw that she was trying to get out of bed, and quick as a flash he was right next to her side. “Celina no, you’re body is still coping with what it has. You shouldn’t try to move so much right now.”

She remained where she was. “Was that you singing?”

He looked at her with confusion. “What?”

“When I woke I heard someone singing a strange song and you’re the only one in my room so that’s why I’m asking.”

Xavier sat on the edge of the bed and ran a hand through her hair. “Celina I wasn’t singing, in fact I don’t think I’ve ever sang anything in my life.”

Then who in the world was singing such a strange song?

Celina wanted to ask but had a feeling her brother would just say the same thing again so she kept it to herself.

“You look a bit better.” He said before sighing and resting his forehead against her’s. “I heard from Ann, the way she spoke sounded like you were ill, I was so scared, so very scared that something had happened to you.” he pulled away slightly to look at her. “How are you feeling?”

She placed a hand on her stomach before she answered him. “Better then yesterday, but my body still feels… strange. I’m not sure if that’s normal but both Maria and Ann says that it is so I can only take their word for it.”

“You should remain in bed,” he said causing Celina to frown at him. “I know that you are not ill I just don’t…” he sighed. “I don’t want you to end up in a bad situation that someone could take advantage of you without ether myself or someone we trust to get you away in time.”

Celina just looked at him; he knew what happened with Stepan Boscone, as the feeling of dread began to consume her as the pain in her abdomen intensified causing her to grit her teeth from the pain.

“Celina?” Xavier placed a gentle hand on her shoulder while looking at her with worry. “Are you alright? Do you need me to get Maria or Ann?”

She shook her head, as much as she trusted Maria and Ann she didn’t want them to hear something that would reveal a dark part of her’s or her brother’s past.

Still feeling worried for his sister he pulled Celina into his chest and held her tight. “You know that no matter what, I will always love you.”
