Chapter Twenty Four
Cain came awake to a sudden throbbing in his head, his vision blurred as he tried to get his bearings as to what happened to him. He only recalled being beaten almost senseless by the King before his sister the Princess stopped him. It seemed Celina knew that it was only an accident and that she had already forgiven Cain for what he had done but he could tell that the King did not.
“If you so much as come in contact within an arm’s length of her again like that I will kill you myself.”
The King’s chilling words scared the young man like no other, he intended to tell both his father and mother that he had no intention of trying to win over the Princess’s heart for the King would never allow it after what had just happened.
But how did he end up here? Last thing he recalled was that he was returning home and a woman suddenly called out to him then when he turned everything went dark.
If he knew any better he could have sworn this was something his mother cooked up as payback for failing to get Celina to like him, after all this would be one of the extremes that his mother Victoria would go to.
Not that Cain cared, at least not anymore, he knew fully well that his mother hated him for reasons he still did not understood. But then he simply grasped that no matter how much time would pass he never would even if his mother died.
And it hurt knowing that fact, even more then that both of his parents only saw him as some political tool to be used. He was a human being for god’s sake, not a damn puppet!
Grinding his teeth at the mere thought of that Cain began to move only to freeze in place when he suddenly realized something. He couldn’t move.
And what’s more his upper body seemed to be strapped to a table facing down with his wrists chained in both metal and leather. And the horrifying fact that he was no longer clothed.
What the hell was this?
Panic began to set in as his eyes finally adjusted to darkness around him, he didn’t recognize the room but it looked cold and damp as the sound of water dripped off of the ceiling and on to the cold stone floor somewhere in the room.
His hazel eyes darted about as he tried to figure out where he was, his heart pounding and his breathing heavy his mind started to go back to when he was thirteen.
No! His mind screamed. Don’t think that, don’t even remember it! Remember and you’ll be in a worse place then you already are!
Cain forced himself to relax, to slow everything down so as to not succumb to panic. But as his calming technique was finally working the sound of a door slowly opening made all of that stop causing him to freeze in place.
The faint sound of footprints caught his attention as they drew near.
Breath caught in his throat he remained still, hoping that whoever was there would think that Cain was still unconscious. With eyes closed he listened to the sound of the footsteps as they began to draw nearer and nearer to him until he felt like the person was now over him, shadows moving over his eyelids.
Then he felt a hand running lightly over his back, nails scraping at his skin. Cain bit the inside of his cheek to stop himself from cringing, he never liked it when someone touched him it always made him feel sick. It was one of the reasons why his father could never understand why his son couldn’t seem to find a wife, but Cain’s mother knew why, knew very well. And he hated his mother for that.
