Chapter 4: Survival part 1

"I'm gonna die aren't I?" she asks as she starts tearing up.
"No it's just a bite it's not like you were breathing smoke, it's probably just an infection," I explain to try and make her feel better.
"I'll be right back I'm gonna go get some medicine," I add.

Krista's POV
I walk out of the room to see if anybody is out in the hall which I start to check every 30 minutes. I've never felt so nervous about what's going to happen.
*Veronica walks in*
"Hey you shouldn't walk around till we find some of your medicine, I didn't really get to check downstairs because of that..that freak," she explains.
"I know, I know, it's just, we need help, I just don't want you to know that there is no way out of this without help and we'll need it quickly," I explain.
"Why do we need it so soon?" she asks.
"Are you sure you want me to tell you," I offer.
"Yes please, I need to be aware," she replies.
"Ok, the waters gonna go out soon, we have no food, no gas mask, no weapons, who knows how long I'll last without my meds for you to be left alone, and also how long the air filters will work till smoke takes over the school," I inform.
"Wow...I didn't know my life could get any worse," she fake chuckles.
"I'm going to go back downstairs and look for your pills," she adds.
"Ok, be careful, I don't want to have to get up," I tell her. She grabs one of the hammers from the janitors closet and goes back downstairs.

Veronica's POV
Once I get downstairs I go to the bathroom instead of the emergency staff room and lift my leggings off my ankle. It's all bloody, purple, and has teeth imprints. I put a paper towel in my pant leg and go look for the pills. After 20 minutes I walk back upstairs.
"Find any?" Krista asks.
"No, I wish," I reply. I start to get really sweaty and hot, which is weird because I never sweat. After Krista falls asleep I go back into the bathroom to look at my ankle and there's purple spreading up all the way to my knee while my face is red like a rash. All of a sudden Krista walks in and sees my leg.
"Veronica what the hell, why didn't you tell me," she says walking up to me.
"Because I don't want you to freak out because then I will," I explain.
"Here follow me," she demands.
"All my senses are heightened, I smell more, see better, even hear more," I explain. Krista grabs zip ties from the principals desk and ties my hand to a pole in the janitors closet.
"This is just in case anything happens there's blankets and pillows for you and I'm gonna keep the door open," she says as she sits down on the bed across from me.
"It's ok, I understand," I reply.
"I have an idea but you're not gonna like it, it worked for a lot of other things even doctors still do it all the time," she says.
"I'm going to be right back," she adds.
"Don't hurt yourself cuz I can't come after you," I say. She looks back and smiles at me. She comes back dragging a dead freak into the office.
"Ok, now I'm worried about what you're doing?" I ask concerned. She squeezes the part where she stabbed it and blood oozed out into the small cup.
"People use the infection as vaccine all the time, it works, it'll maybe work on you," she says. I look up at her and she steps back a little bit.
"Your..your eyes, they're white," she stutters. I just plug my nose and drink the blood. When I opened my eyes Krista was right in front of my face.
"Wait there normal again, it's working, you won't turn," she exclaims excited before I let out a huge sigh of relief.
"But you should stay there in case it doesn't work," she adds.
"Ok, as long as I'm not dying," I reply.

Krista's POV
I fall asleep for a bit before I'm waken up by Veronica freaking out.
"Vee, what is it?" I ask.
"Krista, I'm sweating, is my face red?" She asks really worried.
"Oh my god, yeah," I tell her.
"It's coming back..the virus," I explain surprised. I give her more freak blood and she goes back to normal.
"I get it now, I have to give you some like every hour or so," I explain.
"Every hour, forever..this isn't gonna work," she complains.
"It will until we get more help, I just have to stay up all night or until we find help," I add.

Veronica's POV
All the sudden I wake up all sweaty again. I look up and Krista's asleep.
"Krista, Krista wake up I need blood," I say. I kick her foot but she doesn't wake up.
"Krista wake up," I try to shout. I try to yell but my voice is like gone. I reach over with my hand that's not zip tied and grab the scissors that are in the first aid kit. I cut the zip tie and get off the pole. I crawl over to the freak but I couldn't get any blood out. I crawled my way over to the emergency staff room and grabbed the nurse.

Krista's POV
I wake up to a lot of thumping coming from the emergency staff room. I get up and notice Veronica's out of the janitors closet.
"Crap, I fell asleep. VERONICA ARE YOU DOWN THERE," I yell hoping she'll hear. I get down there and she jumps out at me completely turned. I start crying, we actually became close and now I'm alone and have no way of surviving without somebody coming and helping me.
"Veronica stop," I yell as I'm crying and pushing her off me. I grab the bat and throw it at her and run upstairs. I put my sleeve over my mouth and run out of the building, I run to the main building and start banging against the door. As I turn around a freak turns around and looks at me. I just fall and start crying probably the most I ever had.

Brianna's POV
I go get a notepad from the principals office and right down everybody that was at the school today and see who we need to find that I didn't see leave but aren't in our group. After I right all of them down I pass Krista's name. I run out of the room and run to the library area in the school. To do that I have to go outside. I run to the door and rip the plastic wrap down right before I open the door Diesel runs up from behind me and picks me up and starts to carry me to the lounge. I look at the door and see a person banging on it.
"Diesel no look," I say trying to get out of his arms. I elbow him in the face and he drops me. I open the door holding my breathe, grab them, and pull inside. It's Krista. she stands up and hugs me.
"I thought I was dead," she says as she crys into my shoulder. I see Grover walk into the hall and just stare. Krista lets go of me and runs to him.
"I thought you were dead, I thought you were at home," she cries out of happiness.
"I came to see somebody," he tells her.
"Where's Mary?" She asks in a mocking voice.
"Follow me," he replies. We all walk into the music room but she wasn't there. We all go into the cafeteria and ask around about it.
"Guys Alexis doesn't know about any of the freak stuff," Zoe says. I turn around and run to the gym, she wasn't in there so I went to the locker room. When I got in there I saw a bloody handprint swiping down the locker and the locker had a huge dent in it.mbmv
