Evan's POV
My phone rings, ruining the moment. I try to ignore it but Connor is looking at me expectantly. "Noo," I pout, kissing his nose.
"You should get it," he reaches for my still ringing phone.
"It'll be fine," I lie, pushing his hand away, leaning back. Connor hits accept and holds the phone to my ear, "Hi, Mom," I stammer, awkwardly. I can't handle phone calls, why don't people just text instead. Less scary.
"Hi, sweetie. Are you at home?" I can pretty much hear a worried, tired smile through the phone, so, clearly, I panic, a little bit. I grab the phone from a now worried Connor, clearly noticing how my breaths are short and quick.
"Uh, um no... why?" I ask, stuttering.
"Don't worry, I just wanted to know. Wait?! Where are you? Are you safe? Is-" my mom is now the one to panic.
"Mom, it's fine. I'm at, um, at... Jared's. Yeah, we're working on a project," I lie, trying to ignore my stutter.
"Oh, okayyy," my mom sounds suspicious. "Well, I'm coming home early tonight, Carla said she could cover for me. You wanna invite Jared over?"
"Heh, yeah!" I smile, slightly, still nervous to be on the phone, "can we also bring our new friend from school, Connor?"
"Sure!" My mom sounds finally happy. "Bye, Evan, see you soon!"
"See ya," I gasp, hanging up, hands suddenly sweaty.
Connor pulls me close into a very warm hug. I feel like when you first see Connor, or someone who dresses, well, looks, like Connor does (but obviously not as attractive because Connor is the most beautiful human being alive), you assume they're cold. I don't know why. Maybe all the black clothing? But, dark colors absorb heat. I don't know. Evan, shut up and just enjoy this warm hug, Connor's warm, and you're somehow rambling to yourself. Ugh.
Connor pulls away, grinning. "You're so cute when you ramble," he blushes.
"That was out loud?!" I squeak, causing Connor to die of laughter. He falls back, and I lay on top of him. "You wanna come to my house for dinner tonight?" I ask, tilting my head up to face his.
"Of course!" He grins, kissing my forehead.
Then I remember, "Um, Connor?" I rest my cheek back on his chest. "Jared will be there."
"Oh," he sighs. "Oh well, just so long as he's not all up in your, or our, business, it'll be fine."
"Okay." I smile into his chest. "You never told me why you weren't at school and didn't answer my texts."
We sit up and he stares at me for a second. His blue eyes are magical... basically. "Well, my mom said I had to clean the smoke stains off the ceiling, and I left my phone in the other room, it's probably dead. Oh, and I locked myself in this room because I didn't feel like going to school." I stare at him again, baffled. He just stayed home cause he felt like it? "What? I was high, I don't know, man. My mom doesn't want me going to school high."
"You know you shouldn't smoke," I glance at the ceiling near the window.
"I know." Connor frowns, then grins. "I'll stop for you, Evan."
"Thank you, Connor."
"Now are we going to your house or not?"
Connor's POV
We slowly make our way outside. Getting ready, I put on a clean black shirt, and Evan slips his phone into his pocket. "Going to Evan's, Mom!" I call to the living room. We leave meeting Jared outside Evan's house, who tries for a high five then a fist bump. But, I ignore him and pivot to the doorbell.
"Hi, Mrs. Hansen," I smile kindly. "I'm Connor, a friend of Evan's and Jared's" I force out the latter name uncomfortably, holding my hand out to shake hers. I know that Jared and Evan are still right behind me when I hear Jared speak.
"What. The. Actual. Fuck?" Jared's voice is even more obnoxious in a whisper.
"Nice to meet you, Connor," Evan's mom shakes my hand, smiling. Her smile is kind and warm, yet tired and stressed as well. "And, please, call me Heidi." We all stand awkwardly outside for a few seconds until Heidi invites us all inside, standing next to the door. I wander a little further into the house, but still close to the door, so I am able to barely hear Heidi whisper to Evan, "Why didn't you tell me your new friend is so handsome?" Followed by a nervous chuckle from Evan, who starts to walk towards me. I faintly hear him mutter in a sing-song voice, "Because I'm not out yet!"
Once we're all gathered in the warm kitchen/dining room Heidi announces, "Well, to be completely honest I had no idea we'd have guests originally. So, should we just get pizza?"
"Sure!" Jared and I say, Evan nodding.
"Ok, you boys stay here while I order something," she smiles kindly, stepping into the other room. Meanwhile, Jared makes himself at home, grabbing a diet coke from the fridge. I ignore him.
"Ev," I stare into Evan's clouded blue eyes, as he looks up at the mention of his name. "You aren't out yet are you?"
"I couldn't," he mumbles.
"But, your mom seems so... nice."
"It's not that," he grabs and squeezes my hands and rests his head on my chest, then brings his lips up to mine for a second. I'm sure he hears Heidi finish up the order when we unlock our fingers from each other and jump five feet away from each other.
For some reason I glance at Jared, who winks at me and gives me a nod. The type of nod you do when you're saying, "keep it up, you're doing great."
Heidi sighs. "Why don't we watch a movie while we wait?" We make our way to the living room and I somehow end up walking next to Jared. "It seems like its gonna be rough-" I hear Jared cough back a laugh. "- to get it here for some reason. They said it might take a while." Does Jared have some kind of rough, kinky sex thing? Jesus. He's clearly trying not to die of laughter. How is no one else catching this? Maybe it's because I looked at Jared when Heidi said "rough"? I don't know man.
"A rough time, huh?" I say, glancing at Jared, who, unsurprisingly, is clutching his stomach and covering his mouth to stifle his laughs. Wow, so Jared does have a rough, kinky sex thing.
"Well! What movie do you guys want to watch? We have a lot of Disney princess movies!" Heidi browses DVDs next to the television.
"You likes Disney princess movies?" I say, intrigued.
"Connor loves the princesses cause he's gayyy," Jared whispers in a sing-song voice.
"No, actually, I hate them. But, Evan and Jared used to watch them all the time. I think until about last year. Right?" Heidi grins at Jared, who's face has gone as red as Evan's when we were making out. Impressive.
"My favorite's 'Snow White'," Evan tells us, well, mostly me, proudly.
"I love that one!" I grin at Evan. "How 'bout you, Jared, my bud?"
Jared shrugs. Evan and I take a seat together on the floor in the middle of the room. Heidi kindly places pillows behind us to lean on and Jared sits beside Evan. Heidi puts in the movie and Evan and I intertwine our fingers under the pillows behind us. We just get to the part in the movie where Snow White meets the dwarves when the pizza arrives. It didn't take long at all!
