Parker Addington immediately said that, for he was sure he would be reduced to nothingness, if she continued to look at him like that.

She bit her trembling lip for a second and looked down.

Parker sighed in relief, and looked ahead, at the elderly couple that needed help to get off of the next stop.

He wetted his lips, before proceeding to shuffle forward, when suddenly Delilah said something.

"But it hurts."

The words slipped out of her lips like a soft whisper; they grazed his ear lightly like they were just able to reach that far.

Had Delilah said it any softer, he would have disregarded it as an arbitrary sound of the wind.

He turned around at once, and at that instance of time, he was able to make out the deep purple welt on the other side of her cheek.
