❝SANTA CLAUS IS COMING TO TOWN❞ _____________________________
Lark Lane had disappointed Parker Addington once again, for Delilah was nowhere to be seen.
However, just as the bus could close its doors, a voice slipped past.
"Wait!"
Parker's face lighted up as the doors were reopened to let Delilah clamber aboard.
She had on a smile as well, a large one that could have brightened up the entire world.
"You came!" Parker said, unable to hide his contentment. "I was scared you weren't going to come!"
Delilah's smile widened and her eyes crinkled at his words. "I was scared I was going to m-miss the b-bus."
It's unclear as to who moved forward first, or maybe they both did, for in two steps they were in each others arms.
She could feel his warm chest and his racing heart and her arms tightened around his waist.
Parker had never hugged a girl before, that wasn't his blood relation, and my, did it take his breath away.
He sunk his head into the crook of her neck, and inhaled deeply. Her hair smelled of lemons and cream, and something else that could only be described as Delilah Fitch.
"You're shivering," he said, after a couple of seconds.
She slowly stepped out of his hold, and looked down at the floor of the bus, unable to meet his gaze. Her cheeks were tinged as red as cranberries, and it was slowly fanning out across her pale face.
"I was s-scared I would miss the b-bus, and - " her teeth were chattering lightly, as the shivers wracked through her body. "I forgot to p-put on m-my coat."
Parker would have gladly hugged her again, and enveloped her in his body warmth, but it seemed too preposterous and impractical of an idea.
"Go sit down," he said, placing a hand on the small of her back to guide her into her usual seat.
Once she had sat down, he shrugged out of his coat and lightly draped it on top of her.
"You c-can't d-do that," she said, with round eyes. However Parker noticed the way her trembling fingers immediately wrapped the coat tightly around her small frame.
He laughed lightly, and bopped her red nose.
"Looks like I just did."
Yes, Parker felt cold, but it was worth it. It was worth seeing Delilah safe and warm.
Safe and warm.
(he would always keep her safe and warm)
